We can just waive them for raw cap space, which is better than sit on their contract. The only benefit to keep their contract is to get 1.25x the contract value in a trade.

Holy moly. I was looking into free agency this off-season and it's brutal.

Yeah, I don't see that there's anybody who should be targeted by the Pistons at this point in the rebuild. Not to say that Weaver shouldn't make any moves relative to gaining draft capital or cap space, of course. But outside of that I don't see or expect him to make any significant moves relative to bringing someone in.

Stewart/Plumlee
Grant/Doumbouya
Bey/Jackson
Pick 2021/Diallo
Hayes/Lee

Our core is quite already there for 2021 and will grow together.

Questions will start for 2022 offseason with PF and C spots if we don't draft Mobley this year.
1. Is Stewart a true starting caliber C?
2. Would we keep Plumlee as his backup?
3. If we draft a combo-forward in 2022, do we keep Grant or move him?
4. Is Doumbouya a keeper or a goner?

We can also question the fit of both Jackson and Diallo long term as SF and SG backups.

At the PG spot, if Hayes is panning out being a NBA starter, can Lee be his back-up?
If Hayes doesn't evolve as a starter, can he still be our back-up PG?

The only thing that looks as a sure thing coming 2022 is Bey as a starter. Can Emoni change that?

That's pretty much how I see it. Just please please please let that 2021 pick be Cade and I'll be thrilled.

Cade is the dream. Green would be great. Mobley and Suggs acceptable, although it muddles things. Kuminga will be fun to watch and develop, but I have my doubts. After that — and there’s a good chance we’re “after that” because of the current lottery construction — it gets uglier. Plenty of talent, mind you, but talent with limitations or holes to deal with.

Weaver needs to earn his paycheck. I think he will.

The offseason is so simple: Land a top five pick in the draft, success. Don't, fail. There are degrees of success and failure, but it's clear cut from my point of view.

I wouldn't be willing to call it a success or failure until we see how they play in the league, regardless of the pick.

We could succeed in having the worst record, take a widely praised player and see them riding the bench in two years. That would be a failure to me.

Hayes-Lee-FA
Draft-Frank-Ellington
Bey-Josh-Sirvydis
Grant-Sekou-FA/Draft
Stewart-Plumlee-FA/Draft

Let Diallo walk unless he takes a very cheap deal.
