Re: 2020-21 Season: Draft, Trades, and FA Ideas Thread V2
I’m a proponent of trying to sign Richaun Holmes but with our history of signing free agents, I’m somewhat more inclined to look at players who could be the next Richaun Holmes but are currently stuck in a logjam.
Considering the production we were able to squeeze out of Boucher, I don’t think it will be that difficult to target and develop a Holmes-like prospect.
I would try to get Skal onto the 905 for next season. Giles is an obvious choice. Daniel Gafford is underwhelming but there could be something there. Claxton could be attainable if the Nets are in a numbers crunch. Gillespie actually has a similar play style. Jaxson Hayes but he’ll likely step in when Adams expires.

Looks like the Markkanen minutes have declined on the Bulls, we should trade FVV for Markkanen. Send FVV home! Let Lowry and Flynn as his backup run the point. Would probably have to be a sign and trade. Bulls are in win now mode and need a PG.

Do you guys think one of the teams looking to win now would flip a Kai Jones, Alperen Sengun, or Usman Garuba pick for Boucher? He'll be 28/29 looking for a new contract, and snagging a big to develop on a smaller contract could be a boon for us.

Were drafting Corey Kispert and giving Drummond a max contract. And then Masai is going to Washington

Kispert would be like using a lottery pick to draft Kapono. Drummond (five points in his last two games) is the C version of Hedo. Masai is our Vince ... or Tracy ... or Kawhi. We're doomed to lose him.
It hurts too much.

Barton + Bol Bol + V.Cancar make up about 18mill / I wonder if we can do a SnT with lowry for that package.
They have no Murray for untill well into next year and they don't really have the cap space to upgrade their team.
I unno how the deal for lowry looks like cap wise, but if we are taking in 18mill, I think we can send out like 22mill give or take.

The Murray injury certainly may put the Nuggets into play for Lowry;
The challenge is I don't consider Bol Bol or Cancar enough incentive to take on Barton's two additional years at around 14m a season which essentially means we are just doing Denver a favour.
While letting Lowry walk will be a hard pill to swallow, I think that we would make better use of the cap space Lowry leaving would generate than having to take on salary ballast to accommodate an S&T.
My feeling is if the team is insistent on doing a Lowry S&T and walking away from the cap space in favour of MLE we would need to take back expiring contracts as ballast along with an actual asset be it a FRP or a useful player on a rookie deal. Anything short of that I feel we just better off using the space ourselves.

First, don't see DEN taking on a 36yo PG, doesn't fit in with our core's timeframe. Second, I can see the Nuggets applying for(and getting) an Injured Player Exception, around $15M by my estimation which could get a decent player. Lastly, given Murray's injury, Barton's value becomes more valuable. We also may see more out of Bol during Murray's absence, something many Nuggs fans have been calling for

Barton has a PO for next year, unclear whether he'll exercise that option.

I forgot to add that I would obviously try to flip barton to another team as a salary dump in my scenario. I didn't even know barton had a PO, trading barton with 2yrs left wouldn't be difficult in my estimation, but trading him with 2yrs left and 1being a PO maybe even more easier.
Bol bol was the prize in my eyes tho.

Ah
So he is fully guaranteed for 2021/22 but has a full PO for 2022/23?

I would be guessing at best to try and eyeball Barton's value in the wild;
If he could be converted into an expiring or an asset it makes it a little more palatable
The question that obviously is bouncing around in my head is would we get a better more impactful player with the cap-space we would have if we walked away from Lowry than Bol Bol for example.
It also depends heavily on direction;
A 21 year old extremely raw center on a rookie deal during a potential rebuild is likely better than a cap space signing of someone like a 27 year old Holmes making 15x the salary. The opposite is true if they want to run it back with the same core.

Re: 2020-21 Season: Draft, Trades, and FA Ideas Thread V2
Here’s an idea which combines different elements of what has been proposed here before.
Pretext:
Trade:
Pascal Siakam, Chris Boucher, GSW 2nd (projected 43-45)
For
Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, Minn 1st (4-5), GSW 1st (13-15)
GSW becomes a championship contender again. Siakam provides frontcourt scoring, and Boucher (MIP contender) unlocks a new dimension of small ball.
Raps become a future oriented team with Wiseman and 3 lottery picks in the draft.
Fred VV / Malachi Flynn
Gary Trent /Jalen Green or Jalen Suggs (4-5)
Andrew Wiggins / BPA @ Raps pick (7-10)
OG Anunoby / BPA @ GSW pick (13-15)
Kelly Olynyk (FA) / James Wiseman / Khem Birch
That’s a lot of young vets, and we instantly become the most talented *young* team in the league, arguably. Ready to peak when the Nets/Lakers age out.
Pretext:
- GSW wants to win with Steph (+Klay/Dray).
- Raps want to look to the future. Siakam ain’t it.
- Assumes GSW gets the Minn pick (4-5).
Trade:
Pascal Siakam, Chris Boucher, GSW 2nd (projected 43-45)
For
Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, Minn 1st (4-5), GSW 1st (13-15)

just for seasons players are projected to miss remainder off(as assessed by league doctors). like this season, since he is projected to come back next year they aren't allowed to apply to DPE.
also just more info about DPE, its for half of players salary up to MLE limit. you can sign players to 1 year contract or trade for players on expiring contracts only.

Yeah, trying to find the next Holmes or Wood should be the goal. Buy low.

Tell GSW to remove Wiggins and Wiseman and add Draymond Green and its a deal. Don't really want to take on Wiggins deadweight contract just for Wiseman. Draymond brings versatility, toughness and championship experience.

God I love it. Wiggins contract is yuk but two lottery picks and a 20 year old former number 2 pick centre? Its an incredible deal. That team is built for the future but would probably be at least a 7th seed next season. I even go one further and sign and trade Lowry...

I don't see Lowry agreeing to LA. Apparently he wants to go to Miami and with the Dipo injury they will pay him.

Kelly Olynyk (FA) / James Wiseman / Khem Birch
That’s a lot of young vets, and we instantly become the most talented *young* team in the league, arguably. Ready to peak when the Nets/Lakers age out.
God I love it. Wiggins contract is yuk but two lottery picks and a 20 year old former number 2 pick centre? Its an incredible deal. That team is built for the future but would probably be at least a 7th seed next season. I even go one further and sign and trade Lowry...

Let Trent/Suggs/Fred run the offense while taking time and patience to develop Wiseman.
I don't see Lowry agreeing to LA. Apparently he wants to go to Miami and with the Dipo injury they will pay him.
Lowry to Miami was always the plan.
I like the above deal. DO NOT WANT Draymond. Much rather take on a young Wiggins who can generate buckets for two years than Green. Wiseman is an interesting piece but that injury is a serious one.
All in all, I'd pull the trigger on that.
