Like, it’s one thing not to trap curry when his teammates are Durant and Klay (and teams still would occasionally trap him fwiw). Just weird not to do it when the guy is on one of the hottest steaks of his career

Doc seemed to go with living with steph curry going off but shutting down anyone else. Didnt work well for us because Steph was able to get hot and beat the sixers on his own.

Yea, like doc literally said in one of those mid game interviews that he wasn’t worried about curry and was worried about his teammates. Just wasn’t the right decision. Not the end of the world. On to the next one.

I think his point was they were losing the game because everyone besides Embiid wasn't scoring enough.

Can win games giving up 107, don't win many games scoring 96.

Nothing to be suprised about in this one really. The Sixers thought they would be cute sitting a couple of guys that have been resting for three full days already and paid for it. I mean really at the end of the game you had Maxey and Thybulle in there. It was like hand the ball to Embiid 22 feet from the basket and hope he makes chicken salad from chicken **** time and time again. Hard to win a game when your missing 36 points with no adequate replacement for the vast majority of it especially if Shake Milton is going to play bad. It was annoying listening to Doris Burke keep saying look at Curry doing this without any all stars to help him!. Call me crazy I didnt see any all stars to help Embiid either lol.

Has anyone considered simply trading for Steph Curry?

Curry is just on an insane streak of hotness, watched them play the Celtics the other day and he burned Marcus Smart and other good defenders with shots that ranged from ridiculous to impossible.

The game was still very winnable if any other Sixer scored well other than Jojo.

Yea, we certainly could have scored more, but part of that was that it’s harder to score against a set defense. We were up 84-81 with like 6:30 left in the game. In six minutes, GS scored 23 points, largely with curry torching us. If we defend differently at that point, maybe we get some long boards, get out in transition and score some easy buckets.

I know Ben and Tobi is out, but this is pretty much what’s gonna happen when we play a full strength Nets team, simply can’t stop the scoring.
Offense >> defense, someone let Ben know that, enough with the defense BS, he shoulda play football as a defensive linesman if he’s so concerned with D.

That is 35-36 points out of the lineup, your best perimeter defender and top assist guy with no PG in the starting lineup and Mike Scott as complete dead space. Hill just getting his legs under him. Your hot take is just a needless Simmons bashing. We lost because we didn’t have enough offense and with both teams healthy the Sixers have the defense to beat the Nets and the offense to,

GS is a good defensive team and was great defensively in their title runs. The Nets defense makes other teams better offensively. The Nets are nothing like the great GS teams that got it done on both ends of the floor, plus Durant lasting more than a few games at a time seems stretchy at this point.

The Celtics won the game with Curry scoring 47. The Sixers have to have everyone operating at peak performance or their offense is straight bad.

Yeah I get that I just think at the time he did the interview he was more immediately pissed off that we went 4 minutes without scoring after Embiid sat down. Score points when they weren't scoring like you said and it's not in range for the all timer on a hot streak to take over.

We’re likely going to beat the Warriors if both Ben and Tobi were playing.

But yes, offense is just so much empowered that you can’t just rely alot on defense. Defense is the icing on the cake but offense is the cake.

If the Nets continues to underperform relative to their talent like what we’re seeing, I say we have a good chance in beating them in a 7 game series. But if Nets lives up to their talent, like their big 3 gets some serious chemistry, then I say we are very likely to be beaten by the Nets in a 7 game series.

It’s also not like we choose this path with a stubborn mindset of trying to beat offense with defense. You know a franchise is F’cked if they justify their team’s mediocrity by “but the pistons won this way”. We’re not that. But this is the cards were dealt with and we just have to make the most out of it.

What makes me optimistic is the FO knows about this, thats why we almost dealt Ben for Harden. We want a championship team with a couple of all time great players leading the team. We’re not looking for Chauncey Billups or Tayshaun Prince as “THE FINAL PIECE”.

For the mean time, enjoy our team. And enjoy the greatness of perimeter players like Steph, which is my favorite non-Sixer player.

My take away from this game is..

If you are a very good team. Let’s say the Nets or the Lakers.

Why not just trap and double Embiid, get him out of the game and live with the result of whatever damage Tobi or Ben could make on offense?

Maybe the right way to beat us is not to just let Embiid do his damage on single coverage. Maybe it’s easier to beat us if they’d just get the ball out of Embiid’s hands and let the other guys do the damage.

Maybe.

Celtics lose against Bulls ...

We were without Harris and Simmons ... :o

Stephen Curry is the best!

Not sure about the drop coverage on the pick and roll by Embiid in the 4th quarter - Draymond and Steph cooked him + Hill. Lot asked of him offensively so i'm probably being a bit harsh on the big fella, he must've been gassed

It's likely going to be Simmons at the point of attack in the playoffs, but can see Kyrie and Harden going bonkers vs this, and he's got pretty good recovery going over screens. Be interesting to see who Embiid guards v the Nets closing lineup

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
