You can give justice to George Floyd's family but the only way to right this wrong is for him to be not dead. Nevertheless, I hope this is an inflection point for the country, to realize it has been flat out wrong about the police since they were first helping catch slaves 200 years ago. Less police, more community service.
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/04/21/why-republicans-fixate-suppressing-vote/

Republicans, in essence, are trying to eke out as many election cycles as they can with its shrinking base. Deathly afraid of alienating the most rabid MAGA supporters, they continue to stoke racial resentment, fear of immigrants and bizarro conspiracy theories — all of which push away non-Whites, women, college-educated voters and younger voters. In sum, Republicans’ base is vanishing and they haven’t the slightest idea what to do about it — other than a possibly self-destructive effort to disenfranchise voters.

Of course they have a landfill in DC. It's called the Republican Party. :eek2:

Ron Johnson... what in the f'n f... I mean, what other way is there to respond to what he said?

https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/ron-johnson-covid-19-vaccine-170040680.html

This was actually a good response:
“More people will get COVID and die due to Ron Johnson’s comments yesterday,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Zach Hudson. “He’s a disgrace and Wisconsin can’t get rid of him soon enough.”

All "territories" deserve statehood, or at least representation.

DC statehood is a no-brainer or at least it should be.
I think it is a little more complicated with Puerto Rico. At a bare minimum US citizens living in Territories should get Congressional representation. In that approach Puerto Rico effectively gets 2 Senators and the Representatives. The population of the other territories is such that a non-voting Representatives isn't a bad solution.

The only non stupid/racist argument is that DC could be rolled into Maryland to get representation in Congress.

Polling has shown that proposal
Not very popular in DC or MD. Republicans seem to like it best, if there simply must be some representation.

DC has been separate from MD longer than most states have been states. Have any other territories been absorbed into preexisting states in order to get congressional representation? Why would DC do that? And why settle for no Senators? And wouldn’t absorption into Maryland water down minority representation in Congress?

Hey don’t get me wrong, I still think it’s a **** reason but throwing something out there that’s non ridiculous.

To be taken seriously it should be part of combining small states(population-wise) in general.

My 20 something kids still can’t stand him although they know they have
to still vote for dems. The GQP is just horrible. Now they’re redefining
what constitutes legal protesting and saying you can run over protesters
with no consequences. Even with Golfy McBonespurs gone, there is still
no bottom.

my daughter sent me this

(BTW, she just recently finished up her Masters degree requirements at G'town.
As you might imagine, her mother and I are quite proud of her. She's hoping to do a PhD at GW next.).

given how awful republican polling is on other issues, having the majority of republicans on the correct side of this issue is tremendous.

being racist is dumb
It hurts the racist person whether they realize it or not
I just finished reading Eddie Glaude Jr's book on James Baldwin, Begin Again.
It reinforced for me the idea that White people have to fix themselves.
No one else can do it for them. I fear too many White people don't think
they need to fix anything.
