Yet even when they do so it is with faint praise and backhanded compliments. Best shooter ever? That's basically an insult at this point. Curry is possibly the greatest offensive force in basketball history. He should have been getting comparisons to top 10 greats years ago but instead earlier this year they were comparing him to Damian Lillard and suggesting Lillard was better. Then you have silly threads like this one full of people who thought that might actually be true. Here's what's closer to the truth: Curry has been the best player in the league since 2015. He is on a trajectory of a top 5 player ever.
How is her being over sold?
Well for instance you might have missed this?
https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/marvel-espn-nba-game-avengers-1234958705Curry is possibly the greatest offensive force in the history of basketball? He's not Jesus man, he cannot sink 3 pt. shots while walking on water, that's an awful lot of hype for your poor guy to have to live up too. No wonder people are making such high (and equally ridiculous) demands that he contend surrounded by garbage, if he is a basketball miracle he currently would be contending.... unfortunately he is just a human being, and you know what? That's okay.
What's wrong with a comparison to Lillard? Dame is also a really good shooter, Steph is better of course at that, Lillard surely has attributes to his game that are more complete than Steph.
He's on a trajectory to be a top 5 player ever? He wasn't even the top player on his team when KD was there, so what that makes the top 5 players of all time Lberon, MJ, Wilt (in whatever order you choose to put those three guys) then KD then Steph? Steph's wife and his mom can be excused for beliving that, and maybe his kids.... but unless your anyone other than that you're just being silly.
He is amazing, he is historic, he is important to the NBA, but you don't have to shoehorn him into anything more sacred than that.
If you do not know how good a basketball player Gary Payton was just go and stand near him for a little while, there's a good chance he'll come over and tell you. - Ahmad Rashad
