Jalen Harris Discussion

Post#1 » by PRESTIGE » Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:03 pm

I have to admit I have no idea about this guy. I don’t think I’ve actually seen him play. Those better informed can enlighten the rest of us.

Thoughts, projections for him?

He was a very good scorer in his last year of college. He also played pretty well in the G league. Shot 50% from 3 on close to 6 attempts/game (only 7 games).

Ceiling is a 6th man offence only kind of guy. Poor mans Lou Will.

I think he could be like Cuttino Mobley.

Now that Matt Thomas and TD are gone he has a slightly clearer path to the rotation. He'll still play max games for the 905 next season. Then his next contract will be super cheap.

Haven't seen him play a meaningful minute in the season to make a judgment yet. We'll probably know where he stands at training camp for next year.

That's pretty high praise, that would be nice

Ya, I think he could be on at least Terence Davis' level with a higher BBall IQ. Mobley is best case scenario on offense.

Jalen has excellent handles, drives to the net and can even finish above the rim. He seems a little bit on the small side but will probably fill out strength wise as he matures. He could become a Norm type of player over time but has better floor vision and handles then Norm. Defence is probably not one of his strengths right now and he will have to prove himself in that end to get much playing time under Nick.

https://www.thestepien.com/2020/03/05/jalen-harris-scouting-report/

Outcomes:
High: Above-average 6th man who can consistently provide good scoring off the bench. Improved spot up shooting allows him to play off the ball at times for lineup flexibility and earn more minutes. Improved defensive consistency will also allow him to earn more minutes and could play in high-leverage game situations.
Medium: Average role player off the bench. Can provide a good spark off the bench and improved spot up shooting allows him to play off the ball at times also. Shotmaking translates, but not enough to mainly be the main option off the bench.
Low: Fringe rotation player who can occasionally provide a spark off the bench. Shotmaking doesn’t fully translate. Not improving his shot makes it tough to play him off the ball, but he isn’t good enough on the ball to get consistent minutes.

Hopefully he can improve his defense.

We will need to see what he does with his opportunity next season. No real judgement can be made on this injury shortened season. I think it is plausible to still have hopes for him as a rotational piece.

He was the 59th overall pick, and I haven't seen much that would distinguish him as a rotation piece.

He'll have to improve a lot of defense and show more consistency as a shot maker w/ some creativity if he's going to stick beyond another year on the 905.

not worthy of roster spot or 2 way spot, the dewan Hernandez treatment, cut him and have 905 sign him.

He'll be able to score at the next level. He has the toolset with a good set of ball skills and above-average athleticism.

The key for him will be defense and whether he can hold up at the next level, at least enough that he doesn't wipe out any advantage he offers on offense. And there are smaller/slower players that manage so there's no reason why he can't eventually figure it out. But I wouldn't say it's a guarantee. Give him a full g-league year developing his game, making spot appearances with the big club and then reassess in summer of 2022.

That's what they said about Powell. He's on the Powell development program.

Oh my. How can you say that about poor man's Harden. But seriously he was playing much better than Malachi in the G-League. He got hurt and stopped playing well, he actually played poorly but that's not him. He can shoot, he's athletic and his handles are decent. He needs runs, confidence and to improve his defense. He's not Hernandez who was a flier, he's got more talent than that.

Ska needs to make a comeback.

I admit I completely forgot about this kid.

When Yuta got converted I was thinking who was the other 2-way player that we signed...and...of course, it is Jalen Harris. What position does he play again?
