My wife and I watched the first episode of "Warrior" last night...and I really want an excuse to keep watching it, but the writing and directing were just so **** terrible. The premise is great, the production seems solid, the action sequences were good, and the cast seems game (for the most part). We both really enjoy martial arts films, and I'm totally willing to roll with corny scripts in that space, but the writing was so bad. The directing, while maybe not quite as awful, was often ham-fisted and clumsy, and I'm pretty off how they're playing the spoken Cantonese. Does it get better? Is there at least something I can hang onto that will get me through, like even better/more frequent action?

Yep, gets better and better, like Black Sails
Black Sails was great. Warrior is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I dont consider them on the same plane. Maybe more like Banshee, another forum fav. A few decent actors, a lot of good action and a bit over the too.

I meant , got better with time, Banshee was great from the first episode, much like Spartacus.

Anyone check out episode 1 of Mare of Easttown? Really good. Kate Winslet is terrific.

"Sasquatch" on Hulu is a fun doc. It uses Sasquatch as an entry point to explore the North Carolina pot industry. Its full of interviews with two of my absolute favorite types of interviews (people who think Bigfoot is real, and really old potheads). Not as good as "Wild, Wild, Country" but you can tell it is made by the same people.

I think you mean Northern California :)

And yes, this was very good. I think that area and time period (early 90s) would make a fantastic setting for a fictional tv series

Wow. I could have sworn I typed California. Good catch.

I’ve always chuckled at all the contradictions in the weed culture. This doc has seemingly reasonable growers, complaining about government intervention and claiming they are simply trying to provide for their families. Of course, it also has grizzly unsolved homicides and hells angels and deep seeded racism. So like many things, its very complicated. My favorite quote, was the guy who says about the hippy growers “they are all listening to the Grateful Dead, but carrying machine guns.”

The apex of the doc, is the anthropologist at the beginning of episode 3 who says “well of course there is not a literal bigfoot, humans create monsters to obscure the terrible things that they do.” That tied all the themes together so perfectly.

They should do a sequel to Draft Day where Kevin Costner becomes a Prolific Poster after the guys he targeted in the first movie are giant busts.

Watched "Belly" for the first time this weekend with no expectations save for flashy cinematography. Rarely have narrative and "acting" mattered so little in how I regard a film. Almost feels beside the point to review it. I fking loved it.

Like 30% of all college parties I went to had Belly playing with the sound off and invariably 4-5 people watching it.

For all Mankind had a terrific finish to it's second season.

Falcon and the Winter solider was a mess. Can excuse them for having to change things because of covid but man was it all over the place.

Awesome. Regular house spot favored running Bones Brigade vids on loop. Vibes.

I just started binging For All Mankind, even watched a couple episodes in my office at work. I'm really enjoying it a ton. I don't know why I opted to skip it when I got ATV+.

Think it got lost in with the other first up shows they had. Been one of my favourite shows the past two years now.

Same! I’ve really enjoyed watching it, it’s well done and definitely had more than a few “holy ****” moments.

I loved the part where Liu Kang kept spamming leg sweeps on Kano, but yeah. Other than that it was really a pointless experience. I wanted it to randomly be great or so terrible it was good. Got closer to the latter but not nearly enough.

If they had just focused on a Sub Zero versus Scorpian story line it could've been great. Those scenes were on point.

Forget the rest. Forget about a tournament. Do some movies about rival story lines (Sonya/Jax going after Kano being another) and THEN do a movie setting up the tournament and then one featuring the tournament.

Good lord Marvel quite litteraly has the blue print out there for all to see and these God damn people green lighting these movies are just to damn impatient and we get cluster **** of what only looks like a movie

One key difference is that the Marvel movies are an adaptation of 50+ years of stories whereas Mortal Kombat is an adaptation of Mortal Kombat.

The animated Harley Quinn series is surprisingly entertaining and funny, even if it suffers from the "we're edgy so we're gonna use the F-word every other sentence" trope that a lot of adult cartoons fall into. Seriously, how can DC consistently make good animated stuff but fail so hard at everything live action?

Did anyone here watch Best Picture winning film Nomadland? I was very underwhelmed by it and was shocked it performed that well at the Oscars.
