The broadcast, "Marvel’s Arena of Heroes," will be driven by a Marvel storyline in which the Avengers look to recruit Warriors and Pelicans players to fight alongside them against an invading alien army. Using 3D virtual characters, custom graphics and animation packages, the telecast will include characters such as Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Black Widow and Doctor Strange.

"Recognizing the superior physical abilities, agility, and tenacity of Earth’s greatest athletes, the Avengers will hold a series of contests where the winners earn the right to train and fight alongside them as Marvel’s Champions," ESPN said in a news release. "The Avengers will begin their recruitment with the NBA elite and observe the battle between the Warriors and the Pelicans, focusing on three star players from each team."

The players the Avengers will "scout" Curry, Williamson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Players will gain "Marvel Hero" points for every point, rebound, assist, steal and block, losing points for missed field goals, free throws and turnovers. The player with the most "Marvel Hero" points on the winning team will be crowned Marvel Champion.

IDK if this even belongs in this thread but it's sort of about this season and what the heck.

Why?

Money and marketing. It's not at all my thing, and I don't know who it appeals to but am just incredibly confused.

My only semi-redeeming point to it is that it doesn't hurt anyone who isn't interested but really just so confused, from reading the description I don't know what to even make of it.

I had the same takeaway lol... like I don't actually get it. I tuned in for 10 min to nickelodeon's broadcast of one of the NFL playoff games out of curiosity. I could actually see how it'd appeal to young kids as they were using the announcing crew to explain the rules of the game. It had silly visuals too but it worked. This... like what?

It reads like the fever dream of a deranged marketing exec.

I am so sick of Marvel and superheroes in general at this point, it's not even funny.

I mean like I said it doesn't hurt me so whatever but seems like it's too much Marvel for anyone who likes basketball and too much basketball for anyone who likes Marvel.

It's just so weird. Didn't watch the nickelodeon thing but that sounded kind of interesting, and NFL commentary is stronger than the NBA.

Jeff Green seemed like he has the perfect career to end up on the most teams on NBA history, so I decided to see where he stands

The record - 12

Active players:

Ish Smith - 11
Anthony Tolliver - 11
Trevor Ariza - 10
DJ Augustin - 10
Jeff Green - 10
Garrett Temple - 10
Wayne Ellington - 9

Broadcasters will do anything rather than act like basketball itself is a interesting sport. Why cover it up with all these gimmicks?

Not sure what the record is. I believe Jim Jackson was on 12, and that's the highest I can think of.

Chucky Brown/Jim Jackson/Tony Massenburg/Joe Smith are tied at 12

Ish Smith seems like the kind of player who could still find his way to another four teams before he retires.

Is Randle good on defense? Pretty solid mix of skills if so.

Irving’s been nothing but net in the 1sr quarter. On pace for 64 points.

So as of today, Steph has 273 made 3s this season

I remember when he broke the record for most in a season with 272 back in 2013

And the 2013 season is no longer in the top 10 for most 3s in a season. My how the league has changed

Tonight’s probably not the best night, but Steph is a lock for top 5 in POY unless he gets injured right?

Feel like he’s been the best player in the RS by far, even as good as Jokic has been. And with all the missed time from everyone, it’ll be hard for guys like LeBron, Davis, KD, and Harden to really be in the conversation too.

I'd have him in mine at the moment (He's a top 5 player for me in general), but lack of ability to make any sort of movement up the list in the playoffs will hurt him in the discussions, since the warriors will not go far.

Given how much playoffs matter here, he's not a lock for sure.
