How-many Wiz losses to-date have been Scott Brooks losses?

Post#1 » by closg00 » Fri Mar 26, 2021 5:12 pm

Question for anyone who has watched every Wizards game this season, or most of them, how-many Wiz losses to-date can be fairly attributed to Scott Brooks coaching losses?

Mods - Please allow this a little run before merging with the Brooks thread

Good question. Every single loss pre-covid stoppage is completely on Brooks, he was horrible. After that, I’m not so sure. Bryant got hurt, Ish got hurt (no more midget ball) he gave up on Robinson. I think it’s just a wildly mediocre roster. Westbrook is a boat anchor.

Id say about 10.

I'd say 10 losses are on Brooks as well. Off the top of my head....

@ PHI (opening night)
vs. ORL
vs. ORL (17 point lead in 4th quarter)
vs. CHI
vs. CHI
vs. MIL (first of the home back to back with Bucks)
@ NYK (17 point lead last night)

That's 7 right there without looking back at the schedule

Even if you win all those, you're at 22-21 right now.

Just have to go through each game thread that was a loss, and see how many state something to the effect of "this is on Brooks". Its a tedious exercise, but a good one also.
From my perspective, Brooks has not reigned in the players that don't play as a team. He has allowed poor defensive play and turnovers without accountability. He has allowed shot jacking with no accountability also. Every loss is on him. Every win, where we rely on hero-ball, is a bad win, and that is also on him and the hero-ball players.

Evaluating Brooks is not a simple as losses that can directly be attributed to coaching decisions or philosophy. You also have to consider what losses that are seemingly on the players would be turned into wins by a good coach, or how players on the roster over multiple seasons during the Brooks tenure would have progressed with better coaching tutelage.

Does Beal becoming a destroyer of defenses earlier? Does Oubre develop basketball skills and smarts to go along with the athleticism? Does Otto become a foundational player?

Never forget, this is the guy that started Thabo Sefolosha and Daequan Cook over a 3rd year James Harden.

So, Wizards right now would be 34-26 (27-33 right now). Brooks has to go!

Feels like we punt on the first 20 games of the season every year with nonsense rotations.

No question about it. Both Atlanta games were 100% on Brooks.

I just say F**** you Ted and Tommy. Why is this moron still coaching the Wizards? Haven’t these idiots in charge any ounce of self respect?

Oof! Regardless of what happens at the play-in, Tommy cannot reward Brooks with another contract

Let's hope this is the last one before the play-in game. Last regular season one ever.

Just need one more win, but will Brad play on Friday? I think they can beat Cleveland without him, unless it comes down to the last play or few possessions.

Doesn’t sound like Brad will play

They’d need him more on Sunday

They are re-evaluating him that day so there's a shot, but it's not likely. If they can't beat a Cleveland team that is barely trying, they don't belong in the play-in game.

Hope this seals his fate. If he is re-signed I'm going to have a mental breakdown.

I don't understand the logic of using him as a scapegoat. The team went 0-9 shooting after being up 116-111. How is this on Brooks exactly? The guys just missed looks.

It's illogical considering if Westbrook just made a layup or say Neto makes that floater, it's suddenly a great win. You win & you lose, there's rarely 1 player or coach to blame for losses.

Uh. Look at that lineup.

Russ
smith
Neto
Bertans
Len

One to two shooters. Sub par defending at three positions. No rim protection.

No plays called.

It’s ALL on Brooks.
