He's basically another Kanter type of the player with better range, undersized center with ok athleticism for the European standards.

Re: Alperen Şengün
he is being mocked around 12ish-16ish. so it wont be so surprising if he gets selected at 9. also I don't understand the current bias towards the centers in this age. this year's mvp frontrunners are both centers. no need to be a super talented centre to be selected in top 10.

Floor: Jonas Jerebko (who carved out a decent 10 year NBA career as a useful rotation big for good teams). Sengen at 18 years old just cooked Jerebko.
Ceiling: Domantas Sabonis, multiple time NBA All-Star.

He's very different from Kanter. Much more versatile, skilled. And a better defender (who isn't?).
Plus, he's not only limited to playing center, like Kanter is.

Jerebko? At no time ever in Jerbeko's career was he as good as Sengun is now. Jerebko was never good enough to have a European team built around him. Never.

Re: Alperen Şengün
I get that he's an outlier in terms of production at his age, but man he just does not pass the eye test for me at all in terms of NBA fit/ability. Does anyone really think it's a good idea to draft a big in the top 10 who doesn't look like he'll be an elite defender, doesn't space the floor, doesn't have stand out physical measurements/athleticism, and isn't a special playmaker?

“No One Wants to Miss on Another Jokic.” Top story right now on ESPN about Sengun.
Yes, this kid’s going top 10 in the draft.

I think he’s actually the third best prospect in the draft.
Athleticism is highly underrated. He showed a nice 360 dunk in transition recently. How many NBA centers can do that?

I was like you at first, but after watching him more - I will be shocked if this kid isnt a star. Imagine first 2 years chubby Jokic, he was already good NBA player, but imagine if he was same player but still playing in Europe - he wouldn't have passed eye test either. Jokic kinda came out of nowhere from that Megaleks team, so sadly we didnt have discussion on him prior to the NBA, I bet we would have been able to assemble a book long takes how he is too slow to pass Gatorade in the NBA.

Re: Alperen Şengün
All depends on if he can develop a consistent 3 point shot. If he does, he's basically Kevin Love 2.0 with better defensive instincts. And that's an all-star

I think he will space the floor and be a special playmaker actually. For the sake of argument let's say his ceiling is Kevin Love. Is that worth a top 10 pick in 2021? Maybe.

Kevin Love is worth a top-10 pick in basically any draft ever. There are like 3 drafts where 10 players taken were better than Kevin Love. And I dont even really love Kevin Love. But expectations that your getting a player better than Love at pick 8, 9, 10. Thats just totally unrealistich.

Jokic is almost 7ft tall player who has pg skills and entire system is built around , Sengun is about 6"9 , while he can make the nice pass , he will never handle the ball in the NBA as much as Jokic does or even Sabonis . He will lose lots of advantages in the NBA , playing against strong and athletic seven footers , he should try to expend his shooting range and there is potential there , or he will become Kanter type of the center , who will be useful on the offense , in the paint but will be exploited in many ways , on the defensive end of the floor, in the paint and outside of the paint. Jokic did turn a lot of eyes playing at u19 world championships ,nike hoops summits and plying in Adriatic league, he would have been first round selection in 2015 NBA Draft , if he didnt get guarantee from Denver in 2014 NBA Draft, he declared that year and Denver have picked him up and they let him stay in the Europe another season , where he dominated Adriatic League, he wasn't that unknown player to the NBA scouts.

John Hollinger writes about Sengun in the Athletic: he should be a high lottery pick and in play starting at pick #6.
Yup. I don’t think Sengun gets past Presti and OKC in the lottery.

The fact he shoots 80% from the line and has a nice touch is promising. Saw a video of him hitting a step back 3. Euro’s with high BBIQ’s are changing the NBA from just an exceptional athletic league to a balance of athleticism and next level IQ.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more open I am to picking Sengun in the lower end of the top 10. I do think he's a bit undersized for the center position and not necessarily mobile enough for the 4. But his FT percentage and practice footage getting shots up does give me some hope that he can eventually turn into a decent floor spacer, and he's clearly a willing playmaker. I'm not betting on him to turn into Love because Love showed a very rare nose for ball on boards and he's one of the greatest shooting bigs in NBA history, which is difficult to achieve. However, if Kanter could also space the floor to a decent degree, pass at an above average level for a big, and defend at a slightly less awful level, that's probably a pretty good player.

There's also some chance he's like a Peja or Turkoglu type, if the shooting comes along.
