Disgusting way to gloss over the genocide of the indigenous people, and of course the "we" probably doesn't include the slave labor either.

And intentionally insulting the value of their culture.

We've gotten to the point where politicians/journalists like Santorum think it's to their benefit... to insult minorities - and they're all too happy to oblige.

That and the shout out to seminal white supremacy film "Birth of a Nation". This is not a dog whistle, it's a megaphone.

Re Chris Evans tweet. OMFG. So many White people are in complete denial
about so much.

But what I wanted to post was the GOP reaction to Biden saying
child poverty was cut in half was to sit on their hands and frown.

In the past the opposition would at least politely clap when the president mentioned a fact that is objectively good for the country.

I wonder if Republicans drew straws regarding who would be the poor sucker to give the response. Tim Scott’s response was just a bunch of idiotic Republican talking points.

I can't imagine a more breathtaking example of GOP party discipline than them making Tim Scott say "America Isn't Racist" in the same speech where he describes being targeted by the cops because he's black

^ discipline or shamelessness, hypocrisy.
In the words of Casey Stengel as he described his utterly pathetic Mets, amazing.

Some more complete thoughts on Scott's shameful assertion that the United States is not a racist country:

Either a country can't be racist because it's not a person, in which case it's a silly remark, or a country's evils are present in the formal and informal rules that determine how marginalized people are treated, regardless of whether the individuals enforcing those rules are themselves evil. This country's very foundational legal document was explicitly racist from the very, very beginning. The structure of this country's governing rules were fundamentally, openly racist, written by very explicitly racist wealthy white men, and the only reason this country is :marginally less racist: now has been the result of a civil war that took hundred of thousands of lives, and decades and decades of struggle against oppression afterwards. It took two hundred years for black people to be permitted to drink from the same water fountains as whites - it has only been fifty years since then. This is a country that ASPIRES not to be racist. To blithely assert that it is currently not in the slightest bit racist is absolutely insane, particularly from the lips of a man who IN THE SAME SPEECH cites instances of himself being pulled over while black. It takes a special kind of intentional ignorance to say something that wrong.
