Yup he’s probably better even.

Honestly surprised every time people suggest that Jones is opting out of $9.7M this off-season.

so why has DJJ fallen out of Stott's rotation? He brings length and defense to the floor.

You can at least give Olshey a "meh" at center thanks to Nurkić and Kanter, but it's shocking how bad he has been with respect to acquiring true forwards. In his - what? 8 year tenure, what's the best forward he has acquired? Covington? Meanwhile he traded away Batum and lost Aldridge in free agency. Yikes. At what point do you ask yourself, "you know - after Robinson, Vonleh, Swanigan, etc., maybe I should totally hire a better big man scout just out of job preservation?"

Because RHJ brings everything DJJ does (Well, he has no 3PT shot rather than a 30% 3PT shot) and does it with more tenacity, toughness and urgency.

I do hope DJJ opts in because I think he can be used as trade bait. There are a number of guys in the 8-10M range that would be potential targets using DJJ. My favorite is Sato from CHI.

The only thing that matters is Blazers have options regardless what happens with our free agents. The best option is we are able to retain all our free agents. However, we can survive if we lose all of them. Even with Lillard's supermax, we can get enough room to have a full-MLE and a BAE. We are better if we can keep Powell, but if not, the full-MLE and BAE will adequately replace him. If we lose Powell and DJJ opts in, DJJ plus TP-MLE is even better.

The primary reason is Powell. DJJ or Powell is a small lineup. Powell is better. Powell is getting more small-ball minutes than GTJ got. So far, when Stotts subs for Powell, he is going bigger with Melo, Little, or RHJ. This could be Stotts' current preference, or maybe because DJJ is banged up with a hip problem. I believe DJJ will be back to 20+ minutes, unless Simon's takes off, pushing all Powell's minutes to the 3.

The only chance the Blazers have of retaining Powell is for Jones to opt out. That might actually be why he's getting zero playing time - take the hint. Unfortunately, that's rather likely to backfire.

Disliked the signing at the time, and dislike it even more now. Was really hoping they would have split the MLE and got two of Portis/Dunn/Harkless. Wouldn't make any difference with the roster being healthy, but would have helped depth-wise back when Nurk and CJ were out.
