Re: 2021 Packers Off Season - Rodgers Dilemma
The media narrative for the last 7 years or so has been that the Packers haven't done enough to surround Rodgers with talent. Pretty much all of the major national voices have parroted that narrative. Most of the criticism was directed at Ted Thompson for his far-too-conservative approach to building the roster through the draft, but it skyrocketed again last year when we drafted Love after going 13-3 despite it being a deep draft for receivers. Pretty much everyone in Aaron's ear - except the franchise and likely most of his teammates - is telling him the same thing. It's no surprise he's bought into that narrative.
I, for one, feel like there were times where they could have maximized his title chances with an extra FA pickup here and there, and they clearly bungled some of their top draft picks. The defense has been a major problem. But sticking with McCarthy for too long was my biggest issue, though.

Rodgers has been able to see what, if any, potential Love may have as well. If Rodgers gets the sense Love won’t be a quality NFL qb it’s probably pissing him off even more knowing what that pick could have been.

Or he sees Love's talent and realizes GB is probably going to look to move on at the first sign it's advantageous to the organization.

Re: 2021 Packers Off Season - Rodgers Dilemma
It would have been very hard to do a trade before the draft because of the salary cap. It would have been only for draft picks and even then it would have been a tight fit. Sounds like it would be easier to try and do a trade after June 1st.
Rodgers talked all season about how much he loved last years teams. Well they brought almost the whole team back. Kind of sticking it to his teammates who have been talking about "running it back" Maybe they could have added some more players if they didn't have a player on their roster with the highest salary cap hit in the whole league.

Odd way for the organization to structure Rodgers deal then when they re-signed him to his extension two years ago as it’s clearly not advantageous to move on from him.

It isn't right now, but it will be in a year. There is no guaranteed money left on the deal.

Yeah structure of his deal isn't the problem, it's the actual amount that causes the high cap hit. It's basically spread out about as well as it could be.humanrefutation wrote:tski1972 wrote:ReasonablySober wrote:

Now I think the cap implications are being overblown by some, it's basically cap nuetral to move him now. Had he demanded a trade last off-season that's when it would have been basically impossible because they would have lost cap space.

Rapoport reporting that if situation isn’t “repaired to his liking”, Rodgers could seriously consider retiring.

I don't buy this from Rodgers at all. No way he'd pay back $23M (and forgo another $38M in a 2021-22 salary) to retire.
I don't think he has the stomach to keep up this PR fight.

IDK, maybe this is the next step in threatening the Packers. Either trade me or I’ll retire and you’ll get nothing.

I mean, that would be the like the 2nd best outcome for the Packers and the worst one for Rodgers so sure, go for retirement.

Let him retire out of spite. That's better than winning Super Bowls IMO.

So the situation can be repaired to his liking. Great news.

What would repairing the situation look like to Aaron, exactly? They already allegedly offered him an extension, though the terms of that offer haven't been revealed. Does he want them to draft or trade for a WR? What does he want?

I viewed yesterday's reports as exactly that. Saying I'm not coming back to the packers is implying he would walk away if not traded. I don't view this Rap report as new information.StickeeFingaz wrote:M-C-G wrote:StickeeFingaz wrote:Rapoport reporting that if situation isn’t “repaired to his liking”, Rodgers could seriously consider retiring.

Him just retiring is one of the worst outcomes. You don't have him next year and you just passed on getting real significant draft compensation. That's a fireable mistake.

If I had to guess, I think an extension that provides us zero flexibility to move on to Love at any point during his rookie contract.

Interesting, I don't really view it that way, but I'm probably just being extra petty with not wanting Rodgers to get what he wants. We already have what the FO thinks is his replacement on the roster so I'm less concerned about getting a huge package of picks back (obviously yes, it would good to accumulate those assets). Selfishly I want Rodgers on the Packers or no team at all.

You guys are reading this wrong it seems. "Repaired to his liking" = "Trade me where I want to go". It's either that or he's retiring.
