I don't think that was the plan.

No way that was the plan. The mad scramble makes it a tough shot, but with 9 seconds left, you have to drive the ball and draw a foul or get a layup.

He made the right play. It was pretty much wide open. I think Beal panicked some, but weird that Russ didn't have the ball there considering the night he was having and that's he's more of a clutch player. In fact, had the best clutch shooting stats in the league last I checked.

I think Neto panicked. All he had to do was drive towards the hoop and the path was clear for a few feet, and a easy mid range shot. Its something he can make. Instead, Neto was going by the script and passed the ball back to Beal. After Beal dribbled the ball off his feet, he was already discombobulated.

I don't understand what you expect from either player. Neto is a role player. He's not paid to take last-second shots or drives. He made the play to the freakin' leading scorer in the league! He didn't pass the ball to Alex Len or Daniel Gafford at the three-point line. Beal was open and maybe he didn't know how much time was left on the clock because he fumbled the ball. But he missed an open shot. It happens.

How much you get paid doesnt factor into this. If so, Westbrook should take all shots when the game is in the balance. If you're open and you got a good shot, you take it. Neto was 3/5 and had a clear mid range shot. It wasnt like he was shooting 0/5. Would you like Neto taking an open 10 ft shoot, or Beal take a 23 ft shot after bouncing the ball off his foot? Beal was 1/5 from 3 pt range. Passing the ball back to Beal was not the right play. Beal taking the last shot was also not the right play.

Just lurking some (and do some scoreboard watching to see how Westbrook and the Wiz are doing), but it was a tough break on the 2nd of a back to back against a quality team on the road that really needed that win too. It stinks, but seems from what I can tell on the outside like they're legitimately a solid team right now. Really hope they keep playing well, it's been sorta fun to have a bunch of teams to follow this year and keeping an eye on the Wizards has been a strange season long trip along with OKC's season kinda getting weird now and the Sixers (I'm local there).

Hope for the best the rest of the way, and hope you guys are enjoying Westbrook some too, really like Beal and Gafford seems to be a steal of a pickup so far.

Loss stings, but Mavs played very well and Doncic was a maestro. When Westbrook plays like that we can beat any team in the league. More than anything this game shows the limits of having to play 3 guards. We need size, length, athleticism, defense and shooting at the 3.

Impossible to criticize the effort. Good game.

Would have loved to see Brooks put Lopez in at the end. We needed a two. What’s our highest percentage shot by far? A hook shot from Kareem Abdul Lopez.

They really came out flat. Westbrook’s will to win and consistent effort gave them a chance to be competitive. That’s a game that the wizards would normally have lost by 30+ over the last 5 years.

I haven’t been disappointed in the effort one single time this year.

Beal has to take that shot. He was wide open. There was just 5-6 seconds left at that point and there was no way of knowing for sure that he'd get a better look. Just didn't go down. Shxt happens.

Both Neto and Beal made the right plays.

Didn’t watch, but all in all seemed like they competed hard after having early struggles. Seems like we just have a history of tough losses against the Texas teams. Also helps that both TOR and CHI lost.

Fun game, sucks to lose. I thought Beal's shot was going in when he shot it.

Doncic plays like a less athletic Lebron. Maybe a lazy comparison, but he's great.. As a Wiz fan, I hope he gets fat, lol. As a fan of basketball, he's a lot of fun to watch and I can't believe he's this good at this age.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

NatP4 wrote:Thought forsure that Beal 3 was falling. No idea why the wizards intentionally helped off of Finney-Smith in the corner and gave him a WIDE OPEN 3 to win the game. You could literally see Brooks yelling out the plan to leave him with 20 seconds on the clock. The guy is a 40% 3pt shooter.

I see now that Brooks says it was a mistake to come off Finney-Smith when they were up 2: https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/wizards/brooks-says-wizards-mistake-final-dallas-possession-led-winning-3. That's the point I was going to make. Giving up a 2 there means your worst case scenario is OT. Even if Doncic ends up downhill 2 on 1 with Powell there vs. Gafford, as long as you don't foul you have a much better chance to win when you get the ball back. Brooks blamed it on Rui, said it was a learning experience, that they hadn't had much time to practice, etc. Did Brooks say anything in the timeout before the play? Did he make clear that giving up a 3 was the one thing not to do, and make sure Rui (the least experienced player on the court) understood? It looks like Rui was set up to cut off the drive - he is standing far from Finney-Smith, looking at Doncic, and even Westbrook looks back to see where he is at one point. Check the video here: https://www.espn.com/nba/game/_/gameId/401307767. Maybe it was Rui's fault. Or maybe its a coaching failure.

The loss still stings bad, but no denying the team played very well. Their only losses in the recent past have been absolute nail-biters that Beal couldn't finish. It's no crime to be not as clutch as Doncic. Who is? So while the sting remains, I can't be upset at the team or the effort.

I wasn't able to watch the game -- :( -- so, I have no context for this discussion. Will watch at least 4th quarter.

Even w/o watching, I'm really impressed with our competitive level of play. It's really a treat to be a Wizards fan right now!
Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

Good luck, was probably the most fun game i watched all year. Most amazing for me was that westbrook and doncic with all them points and assists only combined for 3 turnovers

And Beal scored our final 6 points in the final 90 seconds, going 1-1 from the floor and 4-4 from the line before missing that final shot. It wasn't like he was unclutch or anything.

Mavs about to lose to the Kings. We wore them out.

They are 6-34 from 3.

Finney-Smith missed all 5 of his 3 point attempts. Of course, he made the huge one against the Wiz. I really don't have a problem with the way Rui defended him on that killer 3 - he's not going to make that most of the time. Give him credit rather than blaming the Wiz on that one. Jeebus, that loss still stings.

Agreed. The course of Les Bulez: we tend to get career nights against us by role players. Last case was Finney-Smith who looked like prime Paul George the other night :banghead:
