Re: PG: Randle is different
Didn't get to see this one. Wow. Need to check the box score. There's a strange feeling surrounding this team. I can't quite figure it out. Is this what winning feels like? I haven't had this much excitement for what's going on with this team in many years. It feels so bizarre!!
We have a HC who knows how to win. We have players looking like all stars MVPs MIPs all NBA 6MOY level talent? WE HAVE CAP SPACE AND PICKS TO ADD TO THIS!! WTF is going on around here? Figures it's a weak FA class right now.
I want the 4 seed in the worst way!! I am shocked to have even typed that sentence!! The 4 seed? Really? I'm asking for this team to get the 4 seed? WTF IS GOING ON AROUND HERE?

Pretty clear the last 10 games that Payton is being slowly phased out.
Either Thibs is listening to the analytics department or this was the grand master plan the entire time to slowly build/ramp up to the correct playoff rotation. I'd be surprised if Payton is completely cut out.. he's still going to start but probably won't see more than 15mpg in the playoffs.

Elf starting is because Derrick is a specialist now and quickly like Mitch not starting material yet. Getting in the weight room could help him.
Watching the game now, Rose heating up , getting in his bag and is a special player.
Gotta love everything you are seeing . If it wasn’t super teams I’d say why not the knicks?
This rag tag roster galvanized somehow and is pretty solid throughout. No real weaknesses even the center position minus Mitch with Noel/taj/toppin

Re: PG: Randle is different
That worked in 99 when you had Ward and the half court crew then all of a sudden Childs, Camby and Sprewell came in and you were running a track meet you weren't prepared for and your starters were already worn down and your bench wasn't as good as the 3 starter level players who came in.HighRyzer83 wrote:cgmw wrote:HighRyzer83 wrote:In a 30 point blowout, elfrid managed to record a -2
Seriously one of the most bizarre dynamics ever.
On the one hand, I’m 100% anti-Elf like everyone else. He’s indisputably awful. On the other hand, we have pole position on home court advantage and have just won 11 outta 12. Kinda tough to argue with Thibs methods, and definitely doesn’t seem like the time to rock the boat.
Yeah I think there might be something to that theory about the opposing teams get adjusted to elfrid, then when a real NBA player comes in, it catches them off guard.

Re: PG: Randle is different
Here is where I start to watch derricks minutes.
Don’t use him as a minutes eater. He is obviously much more valuable than that.
What I don’t want to see is Derrick missing multiple games especially when he is starting to look good.
Once he starts walking like he got an old gun shot wound that’s when you gotta monitor his minutes.
Get elf to come close out the game in a blowout man, maybe it’ll conjure some value out of him

That most likely is going to be the difference of winning or losing still. The starts by us ar dreadful. We actually were playing like the team that was going to lose to the worst tream is basketball with him in. And when he was out we were blowing them out by 30.

Re: PG: Randle is different
At least Payton is only playing 14mpg,15mpg. I am a fan of getting bad things out of the way early and saving the best for last. In that sense at least we get Payton out of the way early and usually dont have to worry about him coming back in.
Thibs isnt going to change the lineup barring injury or unless we are in a hole in a playoff series at this point. Its gotten us this far and we have gone this long, so there is some sense of continuity.

Re: PG: Randle is different
It's a combination of trying to keep IQ on the bench while he improves his consistency, trying to balance the 1st & 2nd units so our bench can extend leads, and Thibs' trying to compensate for the talent deficit we'd have in the starting lineup either way, by letting our best defensive lineup start things off...plus with the shooting we're getting from Julius, RJ & Reggie, Elf's shot isn't as crippling & his penetration gives our offense multiple ways to put pressure on a defense.
It's just a shame that Elf can't shoot, finish or pass.

I get what Thibs is doing. If it aint broke dont fix it. However, against good teams. we may not be able to recover from Elfrids negative impact. Something has to happen. IQ is showing he can pass and making his shots now. Shelf Elf and have Burks play with IQ.

We'll see. I think IQ has earned trust from Thibs for Elf to barelly play, but I don't think he's won enough of it for Elf to get pushed out completely. Even with the way he dies on screens, Elf is our best defensive guard in the rotation, and that's been Thibs priority with the starting lineup all season...see the Burks v Bullock debates from the start of the campaign.

I just hope Payton's gone after this year... of course I said that last year as well. He just doesn't... nevermind. Just hope he's moved on and wish him safe travels

Dunno if it was mentioned or not but Luka is 1 T away from being suspended for a game. This is more or less already written in stone since the kid can't stop himself from whining after every single play.
