Ready now to do what?!

Come off the bench behind Fred and Malachi?! Or maybe it's Trent??

I love Mitchell with a later pick but if we're in the top 10, I hope to God we draft someone with high potential as we likely won't be in this position again for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure in general where this sentiment is growing of wanting someone to "win now". If you don't think the core of Fred, OG and Siakam is good enough to win a championship (which they're not) then it's silly having that philosophy...

Mitchell would likely be an excellent rotation piece but he's not the caliber of player to tip the scales as a likely bench player to suddenly put us in the upper echelon of the East.

Not to mention what is the rush??

Flynn, OG and Trent are still years away from their prime...Fred and Pascal will still be in theirs as well and it's probably far more ideal as the Nets will likely dominate the East (league) for the next 2-3 years. By the time whatever higher ceiling player is more developed we'll be ready to rock, not to mention I highly doubt whichever player our scouting team likes will be some lame duck pick that can't at least have a comparable contribution to someone like Mitchell but allows for more room for upside.

Personally not a fan at all of taking Mitchell that high and wouldn't understand why we wouldn't just draft Keon Johnson who offers much of the same stuff but is taller, far more athletic and more upside but that's just me...

Agreed. Even if Mitchell was Marcus Smart with better 3pt shooting. I think because his name is Mitchell the past of Donovan Mitchell being drafted outside of the top 10 is fresh. I guess it's a crap shoot since Dennis Smith Jr looked like the better prospect.

I guess Keon Johnson would be like the 6'5 version of DSJr but at least that's the proper size for a SG.

I wouldn't be surprised if Davion is already better than Flynn, and his ceiling is higher than Flynn for sure. Davion is quicker than Flynn and bigger than Flynn. With how Flynn is shooting and label as 3 level scorer, Davion would be pretty much capable of doing the same.

As compare to Marcus Smart, Davion would have an elite quickest to get to the rim, so he is not like Smart limited as a shooter. The comparison to Smart is more on the defensive end than offensive end.

Davion is still going to be a combo-guard. Maybe he's a taller more athletic FVV? He might be as productive as Flynn next season (so 1 year ahead in terms of development) but still different as Flynn is a pure PG.

We don't need a dedicate PG to pass the ball and ask the other player to do the hardwork.
We need a playmaker who can create open shot for others without asking others to do out of ability.

If you just need someone who just pass the ball and have the other player to do the hardwork, Bembry would be a better candidate. If you are looking for a 3 level scorers, Davion is a better candidate.

I'm just completely over guards who are shorter than 6'6. Seems like forever since we've had some height in the backcourt. Demar Green n Kawhi left yrs ago, and even with those guys here we still running 2 pg line ups. Give me someone with some length in the backcourt gosh darn it

Why have preconceived notions? I don't like Mitchell because he is ready. I don't like or dislike him because of measutements as he's 6'2. Watch his skillset and how fast he is in terms of motor, coordination as two-way stud. I like him better than Suggs. Where would he play? Next to Fred. I would 6th man GTjr behind the two spot and the three. There is nothing about him that says low upside other than him not being a one and done. Do I like Malachi as prospect? Most definitely.

The Raptors won a title w/ two guys who are barely 6 feet getting the lion's share of the minutes at the guard spots. There's so much more to winning basketball than height. Chasing measurements in the draft is an efficient way to find busts.

That midget backcourt had an amazing defense in front of them in Kawhi/Gasol/Ibaka. This year with Baynes we can see how much they struggled. Kawhi/Gasol/Ibaka made having a small backcourt passable.

Not to mention we had 6'6 Danny Green ready to check in when FVV was mia for 2.5 series.

Many of the Raps closing lineups during their championship run consisted of Lowry/VV. Green wasn't finishing many games, especially as the postseason progressed.

Size is nice, but there are a lot of guys with a lot of size that can't defend a pylon. Lowry and VV are vertically challenged but they are plus defenders, which is why it's worked for so long.

I am telling people, Moses Moody is a strong bet for Toronto. He has decent positional size at 6'6" with that 7'0" wingspan that he uses with arms spread wide and low to the ground. He is always in his defensive stance.

Regarding his offense, I just came across a wing stat on shot quality based on their shotmaking ability and he rates out the top one for a true SG which to me means he knows how to get his shot and he doesn't take a lot of bad ones:

ya for sure. Keon is intriguing.

What makes him better than Ziaire Williams ??

As of right now, defense. Keon’s probably one of the best defenders. I’m also liking Moody as well. And both are in the same draft slots in most mock drafts.

Zaire might be too raw and we haven’t seen enough of him to make a great guess on what he might become. Who knows, by the time the draft camp comes along, Zaire might be the name Raptors call because he has improved his game drastically since organized play.

Say the draft order stays as is for the actual picks. I think our pick will be between Keon Johnson and Scottie Barnes:

1) Houston - Cade Cunningham
2) Detroit - Evan Mobley
3) Minnesota - Jonathan Kuminga
4) Orlando - Jalen Green
5) Oklahoma - Jalen Suggs
6) Cleveland - Jalen Johnson
7) Orlando - Scottie Barnes/Keon Johnson
8) Toronto - Scottie Barnes/Keon Johnson

Unless someone reaches in front of us we're probably left with those 2. If that were the case I'd probably take Johnson unless we believe we can turn Barnes into a shooter like OG, but even then he won't be a guy that you can give it to and get out of the way when you need a bucket. Johnson has much more of that potential.

I also want to point out that Jaden Springer was better statistically than Keon Johnson this season, although Keon has more star potential. Personally, if I had to compare their impact in college I'd put Springer more in the class of a Jrue Holiday, whereas Keon falls more in the class of Zach Lavine for me. And if that's the case one guy will impact winning much more, even if he's not as flashy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moody was the pick. He seems like a safe option to at least be solid, but he won't be a star by any means. Maybe a Khris Middleton in the best case scenario. But I will say, this stat is misleading if it's going to have Cameron Thomas as a guy who takes good shots. His entire game is based on being a flamethrower. He's a volume shooter who shot 40% from the field and 32% from 3. He'll score, but he'll take a lot of shots to do it.

Keon is 6'5 so if he measures that at without shoes, it's like the old measure of being 6'6.

Gary Trent Jr. is 6'5 now so old school 6'6. I don't mind Flynn staying a backup but playing 20 mpg for a while so his next contract is like $12 million per year. :D Maybe Keon and Harris push out Watson or make Watson strictly a SF on the depth chart.
