Does LeBron make an All NBA team?

Post#1 » by Ambrose » Mon May 3, 2021 9:38 pm

Earlier in the season it seemed obvious he would. He was mentioned in the MVP race, the Lakers were doing really well, and it was more par for the course. He had the ankle injury and has come finally come back. However, he'll have now missed a minimum of 24 games this season.

Off the top of my head guys like Giannis, Kawhi, Zion, PG, Simmons, Randle, and Tatum are all having strong seasons and have played more games. That's the competition at forward. At guard, it's much stronger. How many more games (if any) can he afford to miss before he gets left off all three teams?

I think he will have to play in at least half of their remaining games to make it. And that’s just some arbitrary cutoff I made up lol.

Guys like Randle and Tatum are going off and carrying their teams down the stretch, will be hard to leave them off.

Locks to make All-NBA as a forward: Leonard, Antetokounmpo, Williamson
That leaves 3 spots. I think Randle definitely get one of that spots.
So 2 last spots. Probably Tatum and James. I think LBJ can make 3rd team.

Totals this season:
L.James: 1077 points, 338 rebounds, 336 assists, 45 steals, 26 blocks, 162 turnovers

Player B: 1149 points, 233 rebounds, 390 assists, 47 steals, 13 blocks, 104 turnovers

Player C: 1079 points, 634 rebounds, 333 assists, 61 steals, 29 blocks, 183 turnovers

Player D: 1110 points, 384 rebounds, 237 assists, 60 steals, 37 blocks, 120 turnovers

Player E: 1082 points, 383 rebounds, 201 assists, 50 steals, 48 blocks, 100 turnovers

Out of that group; LeBron ranks 5th in points, 4th in rebounds, 3rd in assists, 5th in steals, 5th in blocks, 4th in turnovers
Spoiler:
Player B = D.Derozan
Player C = D.Sabonis
Player D = P.Siakam
Player E = T.Harris

Then you have other forwards like Giannis, Randle, Tatum, Kawhi, George, Butler, Middleton, Zion and I just can't see a justifiable reason that he deserves a spot on the All-NBA team. And no, being LeBron James is not "justifiable"...
Go Knicks!

LBJ got 3rd team in 2018-19 when he missed 27 games and Lakers didn't make playoffs. I think there is big chance he will make 3rd team this season too.

I dont think he makes it for the rest of his career unfortunately. Maybe 3rd team next season, we'll see how he comes back.

Before the injury, he was a definitive 1st team, IMHO.

Now, with all the missed games, maybe he should get a spot on the 2nd or 3rd team.

It will depends on how many votes will be split between the other forwards.

IMO, he shouldn't get in. Too many missed games. He missed like 40% of the season.

James had played 43 games. Kawhi 47. PG 49. I definitely like rewarding guys who show up every night, but I wouldn’t put either of the Clippers guys in that conversation.

Jokic/Embiid/Gobert
Giannis/Randle/Tatum
Leonard/George/Butler
Lillard/Irving/Mitchell
Curry/Doncic/Paul

Thats how it should shake out to me personally. All of these guys are on track to play 50+ games (70% of the season) and all of them are on playoff teams (aside from maybe Curry). Booker/Beal/Middleton/Westbrook/Adebayo/Simmons are the only other guys that meet this criteria and then an argument can be made that Harden/Lavine/Sabonis/LeBron/Zion/Vucevic deserve to be in this conversation too but they haven't played enough games and/or aren't on playoff teams.
Go Knicks!

1st team: CP3, Steph, Kawhi, Giannis, Joker
2nd team: Dame, Luka, Zion, Tatum, Biid
3rd team: Booker, PG, Bron, Randle, Gobert

His numbers and play get him 1st honestly, but he's missed so many games already. Still enough for 3rd team.

Before the injury he was a top MVP candidate. So first team would have gone without question.

He absolutely should. Hes played at a first team all-NBA level when healthy and he has only played three fewer games than Embiid this season.

Kawhi has missed almost as many games as Lebron and plays on the greatest 3 point shooting team ever

Read on Twitter

Make that another 2 games he'll miss. 24 games and counting.

Well, that's exactly what I said. You even bolded the part.

A "definitive 1st team" is a top MVP candidate, that's not hard to imply.

If he makes it it is more about his name recognition and history than him actually deserving it.
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

What about Harden? And CP3 isn’t first team. If you traded CP3 with Dame or Luka, would Blazers and Mavs be just as good? No.

OMG, really?

Would Phoenix be where they are without Paul's leadership? I'll answer that with a "HELL NO!"

Also, Randle in 2nd Team over Tatum. Tatum takes 3rd team.
