I thought his last start had an element of bad luck, but this is easily the worst Matz has looked so far. They were all over him the entire start.

Yeah, he was still missing bats, but bad things were happening whenever he didn't. Which unfortunately was the pattern last year...hopefully just an off night.

**** your asterisk.

Springer did not look like somebody ready to hit tonight in that dugout. The “fatigue” must be acting up again.

Geez. playing with fire leaving Mayza in there, I thought that inning was going to go a lot worse.

Tough L. Semien and Teo striking out in the 8th inning on fastballs down the middle was tough to watch. Hopefully Springer plays tomorrow.

Trivino is good, it happens.
If Springer couldn’t hit tonight, I think there’s a pretty slim chance of that myself.

Yea, what's unfortunate is that Panik actually tagged that pitch from Travino and deserved a hit. Just hung in the air a bit too long.
I think if Springer doesn't play tomorrow, it becomes pretty obvious that he re-aggravated his quad yesterday.

Getting pulled mid game while you’re DH’ing and not pinch hitting for a .050 hitter in a 1 run game is probably a sufficient sign of that.

We've seen a couple dicey calls in the 8th and 9th innings in close games already.

1. Biggio should have caught that ball in RF in the 3rd. Cost us at least 1 run.
2. Vlad should have broken for home in the 3rd with the middle infield playing deep taking a ground ball in the 3rd. Not ONLY should Vlad have run intuitively, AND Rivera should have been screaming at him to do so,,,,, but Teoscar should have intentionally got himself into a rundown to force a decision/throw to the plate to induce an error and maybe a run. WHAT IS GOING ON AT 3RD BASE? Worst case, Teoscar ends up at 3rd with 2 out instead of Vlady at 3rd with 2 out.

I'd have to watch the play again, but I'm pretty sure the middle infield wasn't deep on that play. They were at least medium range as I recall. If Vlad runs there, he's out. It's also very doubtful they'd be running the contact play at that stage of the game with Vlad at 3rd there, so I suspect Teoscar is the one who made the mistake in going.

Anyone else see Matz lose his temper in the dugout after being pulled from the game? I'd be pissed off too if I had teamates behind me who are poor at fielding, and a manager who loves going early to his bullpen in games. I agree with SharoneWright. Biggio should have caught that ball in the 3rd. Cost us at least 1 run. Game right there.

I certainly hope that Matz wasn't upset that other people had failed him, because Matz was the biggest problem with Matz last night. He got hit hard, and lifting him after 92 pitches was closer to too late than too early.

i honestly think he was pissed that he pitched like trash and justifiably had to hit the showers rather than anything else. he sucked and he knew it.

That play was all on Teo. On a ground ball left side of the infield his first break should have been back to second. Step and a half to third was all it took. And he should have been aware of where the SS was playing. Just bad instincts on his part.

Correct. Teo is the one that got hung up. But as soon as he was, he and Vlad should BOTH have known how to play it. And that is that Teo intentionally gets in the hotbox and Vlad breaks for home. This creates a bigger problem for the A's and they have to fire it home - probably nailing Vlady - but maybe botching it. Either way, we end up with a runner at 3rd. But Hernandez just basically gave himself up going slowly back towards second where the tag was waiting. Even so, there was probably a second or two there where Vlady could have still played it that way.... But you are absolutely right. The mistake was mostly Teoscar's.

How long is Kay going today? There an innings limit or is he stretched out?
