I have no problem with cutting his on day one of next year if he give up HALF the player option. Might work.
Not paying someone to take him when the team is so bad anyway.

You've seen the buyouts for Griffin, Drummond, players aren't going to give up that kind of money.

Wall might give up $24 mil (or at least $20) - if he was cut before this next season started. That would give him two years to make it up - on what ever team he chooses. He is 30 with ten years in the NBA. Not sure what minimum is but he could get more. Plus, he gets a chance to earn a bigger deal. If he plays well for a year, someone might give a 31 year old a decent deal (instead of leaving the Rox at 33).

Might offer something similar to EGordon. He is due $18.2, $19.5, non grty $21. Why not cut him a check for $25 mil if he will walk away. Let him catch on with a winning team and earn his money back there. Or, Hou might keep him because a non-grty contract will have some trade value at the end of 2022 (when Wall also expires).

Came here to post this same point. Wall's contract is less damaging to a team like Houston than it would be to most other teams who are trying to win now. There just isn't going to be a trade on the table. The Wizards had the same issue and ultimately only managed to trade Wall because of a fluke situation.

The Rockets should keep Wall and maybe try and take advantage of some unforeseen fluke situation that comes to pass in the future, but they're not going to be able to force a trade right now that makes any sense for both parties. For now, they are stuck with him.

I think the optics at the time was that Wizards paid the pick to remove one year of salary commitment . For marginal improvement/change of scenery basically.
