The top 200 soccer players in the world skill for skill would run laps around the top 200 basketball players in the world. Height has nothing to do with skill. This is embarrassing. People don’t realize how much more a freakishly talented person you have to be to be a top 50 soccer player in the world. Luis Suarez came in at like 58th eoy and he’s a down right monster. Heck if Ben Simmons is like 25-30 range the skill gap isn’t close.

Ben can’t shoot/create for himself to save his life.
He’s in the NBA because he’s a freak athlete and a gifted passer the rest of his game is is barren af.
He had one skill and he made it.

David Silva is a passing freak with his feet, hand or feet which one is harder? Easy answer

It’s just bad comparing Soccer players with NBA players. They are complete because they have no choice but to be because the competition and depth is too big.

Any healthy Male from a young age has a chance to make it no matter how small the odds

Only 14% of males are 6 or taller. Different game by nature. You can read up on it but 7ft players with no skill and being athletic for their height (which is rare but has nothing to do with skill at all) played NBA, that doesn’t happen for other sports.

The talent pool are in different galaxies billion more potentials. You could easily make two/three NBA full leagues with a better product. Heck EPL/Spanish league is exactly the case.

Davis is great no doubt, monster, elite talent, Neymar is a wizard though.

Neymar is among the few queens on the sport's chessboard. He's a brilliant playmaker, who was only overshadowed by arguably two of the five greatest players ever sharing his timeline.

AD isn't a dominant NBA player. He couldn't lead a team anywhere. He's arguably the greatest #2 option however. He's more Benzema than Neymar tbh.

Is he even the best player on his own team though?

I think he is, yes. At this stage at least.

I mean...neymars only champions league title is playing with Messi, xavi, iniesta and Suarez. Three of those guys are literally some of the greatest playmakers to ever play. Unless you consider winning the French farmers league with psg to be a considerable achievement.

Neymar is top 3 in the world based off talent alone for sure. However he’s always injured. The past 4 seasons for psg he has played 30, 28,27 and currently this season 26 games so far. Kinda hard to put someone top 5 in his sport when he plays so few games every year.

Like I said, extremely talented and very exciting to watch. But also super overrated based off the opinions on this thread.

Ok and? Neymar is an elite playmaker and can run the show. He carried PSG to their first ever finals last year. Was trash in the final, but his run was amazing. He was also a massive, massive reason on why Barca won the title that year. Have been choking merchants ever since he left.

It works both ways.

Of course it works both ways. And of course Neymar was a huge part in Barca winning the champions league. But AD was also a big part in the lakers winning the title last year.

You said Neymar can win a title without elite playmakers and I pointed out that he hasn’t proven that to be true yet. Maybe he will this year. Making the final is not the same as winning it.

Out of 35 games PSG have played ln ligue 1 this year, Neymar has only played in 15 of those and pitched in with 7 goals and 4 assists. Psg are on the verge of not even winning their domestic league as a result. He played 15 domestic league games last year and 17 the year before that.

You can’t put someone top 5 in their sport that doesn’t play dude. If he played 40+ games in all competitions year round then yes, he’d be right there.

Your comparison doesn't make sense. Neymar took PSG to the final last year while AD was either a 1st round or 2nd round throwaway in the PS, or he doesn't even make the elite competition. Neymar can also create or score by himself, while AD needs an elite playmaker for it. They're a terrible comparison.

Unless the only barometer is a simple can x player win y competition, which wouldn't make sense unless someone just wants to be right on the internet.

Neymar is a clown. Supremely talented but a clown nonetheless. Ref baiting, flopping.
He has all the skills but he's unwatchable at times with all his antiques.
AD has never been a clown.

Bad comparison
Neymar is like a Superman version of Irving
Basketball for a team sport has the highest individual player impact out of all of them not even close to being close. It’s 5v5 ffs and extremely heliocentric (2 or the Nets super 3 etc.)

The top soccer players are freak skilled. Westbrook won an MVP for gods sakes and we still rant on his awareness issues/shot selection and his shot in of itself.

AD isn’t close to being as skilled as Neymar it’s mad disrespectful.

AD is a 1b option. He isn't someone who can take on the entire defense in ISO situations. Neymar is the complete opposite, the main guy, known for his skill level, best 1v1 player in the world. Playing style wise Kyrie would be the closest but Neymar is better than Kyrie in his sport. Maybe Curry

Since it was just NBA Marvel day, I thought you were talking about the Marvel version of Aquaman, Namor. I'm vaguely aware of who that is, no clue on this other fella.

Neymar played second fiddle to...the GOAT of the sport. At age 20-25. If he wasn't the second fiddle to Messi, Neymar would be the GOAT, so not quite sure what you're critizing here. He also has better stats in the CL than in the french league. Unless you think the CL is a farmer's league as well? He's also a better player than Mbappe.
So you're completely wrong

I could see that because steph and KD were hurt. But with them playing top 5 is in concrete IMO

Lbj
Kd
Steph
Kawhi
Giannis

Your first 3 are concrete. Kawhi and Giannis not so much. I’d take Harden, Luka & Jokic over Kawhi. Probably Embiid too.

Whatever order you place those guys in, I think that’s 9 ahead of AD, and though I’m indifferent to it, I would hear someone out if they said Dame too.

At the end of the day it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Neymar is still surrounded by class players in psg. AD’s best teammate at NO...Jrue holiday. Neymar’s competition in the champions league semis and quarters? Atalanta and Leipzig. AD’s competition in the playoffs? Warriors. Tough to compare basketball with football sometimes due to the number of players on each team but also the structure of the competitions.

I don’t really think they’re a great comparison either tho. I think Neymar and Kyrie is a much closer comp

Neymar is more talented relatively to his sport. Being the "next big thing" in Brasilian football is a BIG deal (a successor in the Pelè-Zico-Romario-Ronaldo-Dinho-Kakà .. noble line). It means having a 80-90% chance to be considered the best in football. The 2014 WC is a big "what if".
Yes, AD was considered a top prospect but it didn' quite amount to anything generational. He got close to be the best big in basketball in mid-10s with no competition (aside from Draymond Green) before the rise of Jokic, Embiid, Giannis....

Really? Why don't you take a look at the fouls Ronaldinho was suffering? Did you ever see him acting like he was shot? Count the tackles. And tell us about hard kicks and fouls. The guy wasn't diving.

And now compare this greatness, with the circus below:

This topic is an embarrassing comparison for AD.
The guy doesn't flop, doesn't whine all the time like Neymar.
AD is a reason to watch and enjoy basketball.
Neymar is a reason to not watch and avoid football.

Wait you’ve never seen Davis complain or flop?

Neymar is a reason not to watch and avoid football?

I think someone doesn’t like him that’s fair enough. Neymar is electrifying in full flight (Football ain’t even my top 3 fav sport) even I could tell which ones more entertaining/skilled/better talent.
Looking at the depth of the talent pool worldwide Neymar is a bad comparsion.

I don't even watch football and I heard of Neymar. AD is nowhere close to Neymar's level as a player or popularity wise even after joining the Lakers.

He was never second best in the world though, so he wasn't just behind Messi. He's a top 5 talent that rarely produces at a top 5 level. He consistently underperforms in big games and his CL stats are not that amazing bruh. Other than La Remontada, what other memorable CL performances does he have? He scores a lot for Brazil but only has 1 Confederations Cup to show for it lmao.
