Suns will look at their whole team getting better but the CP3 effect is probably a big part of that.

What he did with OKC (0.2% playoff chance by ESPN) last year was incredible. Not to mention the obvious continuation of winning culture leaking into this season causing us to shut down or trade our 3 best players and then some just to avoid f'n around and making the playoffs lol.

He makes young guys hungry

CP3 needs to be 1st team all NBA this season:

Across a career that includes nine All-NBA selections, Paul’s 49.4 FG% is his second-best, 38.4 3P% is fifth and a 93.3 FT% is the top number of his career.

Even by his lofty standards this year is 1 of kind by him.

A lot of it has to do with being the healthiest team in the league

Before Donovan the Jazz were even relatively healthy compared to everyone else (Obviously Conley missed some time but no one else did).

Would have to agree that the Suns have been probably the healthiest team in the league this season and that certainly contributed to the Suns record so far. Though I don't want to discount the impact that Chris Paul has brought to the team, and of course what others have mentioned in that the Suns internal growth has paid dividends too.

Alot of that is players (pg13/Kawhi) just taking the night off. They've had good luck no doubt, but it's not like there isn't a MASSIVE amount of players just slacking some. Monty and CP3 are pushing the Suns to play every game.

He won't get MVP, but he should-along with Steph make 1st team.

I say it’s bout 75% Chris Paul.. 15% booker.. and a 5% split between the development of other players and the coach

CP is a lot of it, development is some, but as was said, being healthy and relatively free of Covid issues has their record where it is. They're probably the 4th best team in the West.

Still wish they hadn't blown their lottery pick. Having Hali going forward having learned from CP3 would be huge.

They're definitely really good but they've also definitely had a lot of luck with staying relatively healthy, while the other contenders in the west have all seen important players miss significant time.

The benefit of having a young and deep team. The unlucky team in the West is Denver losing Jamal for the season. Then maybe a little unlucky is the Jazz losing Donovan for awhile. The rest are teams with aging, high paid, overly relied on stars on shallow teams that can't make up for them being out. They take up all the cap space then get hurt and don't contribute. If you're going to build these teams that rely on just 1 or 2 older guys to win that take up all the cap space, you should be aware that you are just an ankle tweak away from being out of it.

Right but those teams win in the playoffs when the rotations tighten. The deep teams don't.

Perhaps. It worked last year. Kind of not looking as promising this year.

I mean they traded for a dude who was an mvp candidate last year so why is this surprising? CP3 always makes the smartest plays when it counts the most. Need a big 3 he’s got you, need a key rebound he’s got you. He does everything you need him to do and more. Teaming him with Booker just elevates his play. The Suns would be good but not this good, CP3 has that killer instinct that sets him apart from just about everyone else.

The team went from one of the most dysfunctional organizations with countless GM's and coaches to one with a quality candidate at each respective level. James Jones, Monty Williams and Chris Paul have all done magnificent jobs leading the team and allow their young cornerstones (Booker, Ayton, Bridges etc) to continue to develop at a comfortable pace.

Jones isn't the sexy/popular pick but damn he deserves some serious consideration for EOTY. That depth chart is severely underrated: 12 deep - Booker, Bridges, Ayton, Paul, Craig, Johnson, Saric, Payne, Kaminsky, Carter, Galloway, Crowder
*New Additions This Season

I like that he knows who is key guys are and finds guys to fit in accordingly around their skill sets

I without a doubt do not underrate CP3...and while he has a big impact on the suns roster for someone to even say he is 75 percent of the reason why the suns are playing so well is just absurd. I am not saying they would still be at the top of the west with out cp3 but Book has been cookin and the suns draft picks are playing very well. Mikal/Ayton/Cam.....guys like payne/crowder as well...they would still be at the top half of the west

For any athlete at this age their worthiness cannot be judged by 1 season, but the whole duration of their contract. If they snap a hammy or having to sit out 30 games a season due to load management, then you end up with something like:
- one healthy season, of which they play slightly under their contract, or at most, barely up to it
- followed by one unhealthy season, of which they significantly under-perform their contract while holding up the cap space

The latter was exactly what's concerning Houston two years ago. But for Houston, if you look at that two year span, including the 18-19 season where they were that close to a championship, I think overall it's a successful try luck aside.

You need good players if you want to win a title, regardless of contract.
2019 Raptors included several players that were that were individually overpaid: Lowry, Gasol, Ibaka, Danny Green.

His effect isn't directly on the game in terms of stats. He is the definition of a floor general, the Suns already had the talent which is still improving, but no leader to guide them. Thats what youre paying him for at this stage in his career

No they wouldn’t.. they would be fighting for the play-in at best
