Not watching too many games lately since we are only racing to the bottom (as we should).
They've actually been watchable, often coming down to the last minute.
I'm still trying to understand why you believe Weaver can't hold on to first round picks?
Since playoffs have been out of the question this year, looking ahead to the draft lottery again, which got me looking at our future picks and the years of protection we have on this first rounder. Yes, I was stupid

forgetting about Stewart,
but I strongly believe we shouldn't be trading first rounders. Not only us, but any team that is in the lottery or even close to it. Once you start getting past 15-20 range, sure, trade away, and you can probably justify it that getting an experienced player might push you to a conference finals or NBA finals.
I guess it is a moot point now anyway - with the protections, this is going to linger for a few years and we won't be able to trade a pick anyway, which I think is a good thing.
You're not wrong.
Let's look at an example. In 1997, the Vancouver Grizzlies concluded their second season, and were the worst team in basketball, winning a grand total of 14 games. Nonetheless, they were encouraged by the play of their first round draft picks from the previous two years - Bryant Reeves & Sharif Abdur-Rahim - and were anxious to build around them. So that summer, they decided to trade a future first to Detroit for Otis Thorpe, a solid, productive veteran center who happened to be feuding with Doug Collins at the time. The pick was #1 protected, and would otherwise vest to the Pistons somewhere between 1998 & 2003, at Vancouver's choosing. 2003 was 6 years away - an eternity - and the Grizz would certainly be rolling by then.
So on June 1st every year starting in 1998, the Grizz had to notify Detroit whether they'd be receiving the pick that year or not. They said 'no' for five straight years, making 2003 the year it had to go to Detroit unless the Grizz won the #1 spot at the lottery. They didn't, but they came close. That future first back in '97 became the #2 pick of the 2003 draft for the Pistons. Of course, we squandered the pick on Darko. But Memphis wouldn't have. That fateful 1997 trade materialized into the Grizzlies trading Carmelo Anthony/Dwyane Wade (take your pick) for Otis Thorpe.
Now, a mid 1st round pick is more valuable than 35 yr old Otis Thorpe. Especially considering who that pick turned into. We're quite satisfied with what the trade has produced for us. And the pick is heavily protected for now. But still, you never know. 2027 is the same number of years away as 2003 was in 1997.
