Julius Randle, Knicks Plan To Discuss Extension In Offseason

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 6, 2021 3:21 pm

The New York Knicks and Julius Randle plan on discussing a contract extension this offseason.

Randle's base salary this season is $18.9 million and will receive another $2 million in bonuses.

The Knicks can add up to four years to Randle's contract, but they are limited on what they can offer on a raise to a max of 20 percent.

If the Knicks guarantee Randle's $19.8 million salary for next season, they can add $106 million in guaranteed money four four years. With incentives included, Randle could make as much as $140 million over five years.

Randle could wait until the 2022 offseason and either sign a five-year max worth up to $201.5 million or a four-year max with a rival team for up to $149.4 million.

Both the Knicks and Randle are interested in extending the partnership.

He's earned it but defiantly owes Tibbs a nice thank you gift.

Thibs turned the Knicks into a defensive team but I don’t think he turned Randle from an inefficient outside shooter into a guy who now makes difficult shots from all over the floor. Randle put the time in and it paid off for him.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

I am not sure that I would max out Julius Randle, the track record of his current efficiency is just not there.

This year is his career highs

the guy is shooting 42% from three when historically he shoots 34%
free throws 80%, historically 72%
assist 6 per game, historically 3.9

and extension yes, but to max him out? no

The Knicks will max him out and he will return to his mean

I think they'll max him, he's the existing team talent the team can use to lure other free agents, the foundation pieces are usually the most costly.

He will get the max. No question. I'm a little glad my team isn't giving him the max... but he will get it none the less.

They should max him this offseason. That’s like $28 mil per year, which is what he’s worth. If he doesn’t accept, then they can likely get him for cheaper if he doesn’t have as good a year next season.

Randle will take the extension this summer rather than wait until summer 2022 for the Super Max. He’ll get paid the difference via the prestige of being the face of the most valuable franchise in the NBA.

With Randle's luck in his career, if I were in his place, I'd take the money now. It took quite a while for this opportunity to come up for him. I do not think this window will be open for very long for him.

Dude is blue collar. He didn't get here by luck. He had all the skillset and works his tail off. He puts in the time and work. He just needed the opportunity to showcase it. Pay the man

Yes, take the extension and run. Look at Jamal Murray getting hurt.

Maybe have the 4th year be a player option, so he can get another huge contract around age 30.

If Murray was a free agent this summer he'd still get a max contract so I don't really understand your point.
Go Knicks!
