I do agree that at least, Lee should have played way more than the paltry minutes he's been getting if we're winning this. And those Cojo 35+ minutes definitely should have been toned down a bit and given to Lee, I think he's earned them with the games he shown out in the past couple months

Honestly we should have played Lee more and gave devidis a run, but with how Memphis was playing there was no way we were losing to them.

It’s pretty much what Orlando fans went through against us. Wagner played over 40 minutes, while chasson and Ignas played over 30 each. In spite of all that they still won.

Jahlil played inexplicably well, we shot the ball really well. Sometimes you just win no matter what you do.

with the defense that memphis was playing i think even sirvydis would've scored 15 if he got playing time.

Casey doing something to achieve a goal that nobody in the organization, including the players, wants but him makes zero sense.

But this would bring Weaver's judgement into serious question (if it wasn't already). I can't imagine why he wouldn't give such direction.

Of course Weaver's judgement has been questioned. That doesn't make it wrong. Like I've posted before, if the Pistons manage to win a championship in 2023 or 2024 there will still be people bitching that he did wrong because:
A) if he had done X, Y and Z the team would have won a championship sooner, or
B) he still sucks because he...umm...didn't do X, Y and Z and...I WANTED HIM TO DO X, Y and Z, DAMNIT!
I don't know how you even continue to do it. I've run out of steam.

Casey did it last year with Brandon Knight, Langston Galloway, Jordan McRae, and John Henson.

Anyone surprised simply hasnt been paying attention. Its not a bug of Casey, its a feature of his coaching. Play the vets late in the season. These vets will not be part of the team next year - Ellington, Cojo. Why are we 'showcasing' 30 year old vets?

Expect more of this - not less. ORL game was an outlier and Pistons fans were shocked Casey simply played the young guys to lose. Big Brain Weaver/Casey showcasing Ellington who the Pistons couldnt even trade!

The Pistons benched some guys, but only played Saben 13 minutes... why, exactly? And Sirvydis, not at all. Casey chose letting a couple vets thrive in a win over pulling them in an effort to lose.

I think the why is clear at this point. To torment some of the people on this board.

Ha. I think not playing Saben torments me more than anyone. I am impressed with his game. He has been very good, and I feel his minutes have been unfairly managed by Casey.

Other than that, though, I think Casey has done a nice coaching job this year. I'm not a fan of his, but I couldn't justify firing him at this point. He's getting the most out of his players.

Sekou, Wood, Brown, Svi, and Thon all saw a regular role and/or a spike in playing time later in the season last season. The team also gave Donta Hall 12 minutes a game before cutting him to bring in Justin Patton. Basically King and Bone were the only young guys who didn’t get an increased role. Not to mention Covid shutting everything down and Detroit being among the teams to not participate in the bubble.

Also did the 19/20 shut down before guys were ineligible to be on playoff rosters if they got cut?
(I’m honestly asking for anyone reading this)

If last season had continued on we would have seen something like the season of late where people miss games because of mystery injuries.

Sometimes you just beat a mediocre team that can’t close out a game.
