Any more details on the Bulls pick going to Orlando?

Post#1 » by JimmyJammer » Sat May 8, 2021 9:39 pm

I know it is top4 protected and they also get next year's pick. So, how will Orlando be compensated down the road if the pick turns out to be top 4 this year?

I believe Orlando gets the Bulls first founder the following season, unprotected.

I think that is why you can't trade protected first rounders 2 seasons in a row.

Yes can’t trade consecutive picks. If the Bulls get a too 4 the pick is top 3 protected next year, then reverts to a 2nd round pick IIRC.

First FRP
Top 4 protected in 2021. If Bulls don't convey, becomes top 3 protected in 2022. Otherwise, converts to 2 Bulls SRP in 2024 and 2025.

Second FRP
Top 4 protected in 2023. If Bulls don't convey, becomes top 3 protected in 2024. Otherwise, converts to 2 Bulls SRP in 2026 and 2027.

Due to the Stepien Rule, if the first Bulls FRP goes to Orl in 2022, the second FRP becomes top 4 protected in 2024, and top 3 protected in 2025.

So if we pick top 3 for the next four years the Magic get basically nothing? The tankathon fans will be pleased.

I'm genuinely shocked the picks are completely top 3 protected in all cases.

I'm pretty sure that's not what most Orlando fans were assuming.

Not really an issue though. Barring unbelievable favor from the draft gods, it's not gonna happen.

However, if the Lavine/vuc tandem clicks, and the Bulls add one meaningful piece in the offseason, Orlando fans might be really disappointed with how late that 2nd FRP falls.

Or better yet, the Bulls get lucky in the lotto this season and the Orlando fans end up disappointed in both picks they get.
