Been thinking that the Magic,(Along with Chicago) is looking like a perfect landing spot for Kemba.

1) Have some capspace
2) have two top 10 picks right now
3) will want to improve
4) Will need to sell lots of tickets to recoup money lost in covid
5) will want to be back pushing for playoffs
6) have a young, potential Kemba type player to learn from Kemba
7) Picks are looking like they will be wings and their team already has lots, so can move some.

Based on some mocks their picks could be an SG and a SF so based on that a deal of HArris and Hampton for Kemba and Romeo works ( I believe they are about 20 million below cap after singing 2 rookies)

Then assuming that Ball is indeed wanting out of New Orleans, then you look to either sign and trade Fournier to Pelicans with Thompson or flip Harris and Thompson to the pelicans for a resigned Ball(at about 18 mill per season) and Adams (trade after May 23rd when Adams is eligible to be dealt)

So Orlando would look like:
Kemba/Anthony/
Fultz/Draft
Ross/Draft/Romeo
Isaac/Okeke
Carter Jr/Bamba

Damn good looking team

Pelicans would look like:
Bledsoe/Lewis
Harris/NAW
Ingram/Iwundu
Zion/Gabriel
Thompson/Hayes

Again, A very good looking team with better balance.

Boston would be
Ball/Pritchard/Hampton
Smart/Fournier/Edwards
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum/Todd (boston pick)/Grant W
Timelord/Adams/Kornet

MLE on a big defensive forward who can play some PF as well.

To me once magic dealt vucevic and sold off Fournier it was a pretty big indicator they’ve finally pivoted away from fighting for an 8 seed anymore. At least for a few season. Think that sealed the end of kemba to magic

I thought that for a long time as well. but with the draft unfolding as it appears I think the door has reopened on that.

They do get Isaac and Fultz back. They still have Ross and Harris. They have Carter Jr.

I dont think that
Athony
Fultz
Ross or HArris
Isaac
Carter Jr

I dont think that team is bad enough to get a good pick or good enough to contend in playoffs. Instead they are looking around the 6-9 seed in the east, on that same treadmill.

I can see them pushing their chips in in an effort to climb to the upper eschelon in the east. Kemba and 2 top 10 picks can do that, imo.

Trade Kemba, Romeo and our second to Orlando for Gary Harris and RJ Hampton

Draft 1 of Suggs, Mitchell, Giddey or Kuminga with the GSW pick
Draft Todd with our own pick
USE tpe's and MLE to sign or sign and trade for a center and wing depth.

Smart/Harris
Brown/Nesmith

GSW is not trading us a top 5 pick for Evan Fournier, a guy who got dumped for 2 seconds.
Also they are like $30 mil. over the tax and literally cannot do a SnT to receive a player.
This post is bad even for "you" standard.

I honestly do not think big moves are needed except potentially moving on from Kemba and resigning Fournier. Outside of that, need to replace some of the useless youth like Grant Williams with experienced vets. My biggest concern is getting a big that can fit in and contribute with this group. Need an Al Horford type guy in there. As good as Rob looks he also has not proven any level of durability so it would be a mistake to rely on him.

There is no way the Celtics are going younger. The Jays cannot wait for prospects to develop. The clock is ticking on this timeline. Going younger would push them out of the door.

I think Kemba needs to move. Just don't see how to do that.

I also think it would be wise to use Brown as trade bait. Unfortunately his injury hampers his value somewhat.

Smart on his last year I could also see being dealt.

I'm not dealing all of them but I also wouldn't worry about trading some to re-tool

Look for another team that's near the top of BOTH those lists. It won't be easy.

I'd guess that the Celtics were also above-average in being hit by non-COVID injuries. Certainly they didn't get off unusually lightly.

I get it. But this can only take you so far. Even if this team was healthy and covid wasn't a thing they still take games off and they have a tendency to tune Brad out. Smart is jacking up shots at will and not deferring. Yet hes arguably the 3rd option in this offense. You trade for a guy who was a borderline all star in Orlando and regulate him to 5th in the pecking order. They sign Jabari Parker to sit behind Grant Williams. This is a systematic failure by Danny and Brad and there needs to be changes this offseason otherwise next offseason Tatum and Brown will probably force those changes to happen which will result in another rebuild where we hope the Celtics draft the future Brown and Tatum.

If people don't think this is exactly our future if we do not make drastic changes, you are delusional. The road map is there. The playbook on how to get your way to a new team, is well documented. Tatum will definitely fly the coop as soon as **** possible, and if he was a free agent this year, I guarantee he wouldn't resign with us.

Think about that. If Tatum was a free agent this off season, what would compel him to stay other than money? Nothing.
I don't believe in statistics. There are too many factors that can't be measured. You can't measure a ballplayer's heart. -Red Auerbach

Those three also have about half the usage of the Jays (ranging from 13.5-16.5% compared to 29.7-30.6%), despite also being able to score at all three levels. JB and JT are just 2% and 1% above league average in TS%, while KW and MS are 3% and 6% below league average respectively. The Jays get swarmed by the D and then too often lose the ball or force up a bad shot without even looking for their wide-open teammates.

A new coach with a new approach is desperately needed.

Except if the roleplayers were asked to score on the same volume as the top 4 while not benefiting from the attention given to the top 4, they will not be rocking the same TS%.
Having your best 4 players take most of the shots is not a bad coaching move.

Trade everyone except Tatum and rookie scale players with 2+ years left. Get picks, prospects and expirings.
In 2023 FA sign Jokic.

While I agree, Suggs, imo, while making the team younger, is VASTLY improving the team as well.

Also same with Mitchell and Giddey.

The three of them are all improvements over KEmba in regards to team structure

Why in the hell would Jokic leave Denver for here if we're winning 32 ish games in a 82 game season? How does that make any sense?

What would it take to get cap space for Kawhi Leonard after the Clippers flame out in round two?

The Celtics have the next 2 seasons to rebound from this terrible year or then it starts get to a real countdown with the Tatum extension. He has an opt out end of year 4 - can start demanding out with 2 years left on his deal. Long long way from that scenario here but it’s a serious timeline.

I agree. I think Yam and 1 rook would be all they can take on from the inexperienced perspective next year. Their 2 rooks this year are already good contributors, but a couple of stronger vets in replacement for their marginal guys and a swapping in/out of a rotation player or two are likely more the focus this offseason. (As well as, IMO, a new head coach, at least.)

I condensed the quotes above to highlight the key points I want to push harder on because they're really important.

This team and its culture are in bad shape. Outside of a lucky run to the ECF in the bubble playoffs last year (which involved beating a shorthanded 76ers team coached by Brett Brown and a washed-up Raptors team that we barely snuck past) the Celtics have now had 3 flat seasons in a row. Where is the effort and hunger to win? It's emotion-free basketball. If we win, cool. If we lose, tip your hat to the other team and maybe we'll get it next time.

Something material has to change to propel this team forward -- either change the coach, the GM, both, or change the core cultural guys like Smart and Brown. You can't bring back this same team and coaching staff next year plus a draft pick and hope for things to change. Things will get worse if we do nothing, not better.

I think we need to put things in perspective. This is a DISAPPOINTING and FRUSTRATING year, but it's not TERRIBLE. The Celtics will make the playoffs, and they may even get out of the first round. And it ain't over til it's over.

As far as the offseason goes, it's a real head scratcher. On paper, this team should be better than it is. They should not be down 20 at the half against mediocre teams. I still don't get trading Theis, then throwing away Wagner.

It's easy to say get rid of Semi and Edwards and Waters because they don't play much.

There's no decision to make on Tatum. And they should sign Fournier, especially with Jaylen now hurt. Nesmith's emergence is a feel good story, and Pritchard has been solid and sometimes great. All of them shoudl stay.

Then it gets hazy.

Jaylen is a great player. Do we keep him or try and trade him for a top center? But isn't Robert Williams our center of the future?

G. Williams is a disappointment. So is Thompson, given his pedigree. Kemba is a bit of a disappointment, even though he has more left in the tank than I thought. What could we get for Kemba that would actually make the team better? Would the team actually be better with Smart running the point and chucking up 3s? (I don't think they trade Smart). What do you do with Romeo? He looks about as useful as James Young. Can Kornet be more than a backup center? Can Tacko play some more minutes?

No, there are some real issues here. Danny needs to do some real work this offseason.

They need to make some significant changes, but ideally they'll draft a strong defensive pg first... They have plenty of wings with Tatum, Brown, Nesmith, and hopefully a resigned Fournier.

Ainge is probably incapable of doing this and will more likely deal the pick to dump a salary. However, the ideal pick imo is Davion Mitchell, but that will probably require getting into the top 10.

Drafting Mitchell gives them some flexibility on moving Kemba and/or Smart, and adding some size. Unfortunately Rob Williams, along with Romeo Langford, are made of glass.

Correct. Injuries while unfortunate probably is the reason that a treadmill team falls further back in the standings. The Injuries they've had this season should not knock an elite team down to a play in tournament.
