Two completely different circumstances. You knew that, but just wanted to bring up Crowder for some odd reason.

There isn't going to be a 1 year prove it deal. Either Miami is good with Oladipo having surgery now to be in better shape for the future or he just pissed off Miami by not playing through pain and he's not in the long term plans anymore.
Keep in mind Miami had been inquiring about Dinwiddie who was out for the season and could be a free agent this summer, much like Oladipo's current situation, basically indicating that they're looking at the future more then the present. I personally think most everyone will be back after this season including Oladipo and the FO is banking on the new talent (Oladipo or even had it been Dinwiddie) plus improvement in the summer from Bam, Robinson, Herro and Precious will be enough to be a contender with Butler, Dragic and now probably Ariza and Dedmon. Plus Miami should have some decent sized contracts if they want to make trades and still have Herro and Precious on rookie contracts and the availability of another 1st and 2nd round pick as another year's picks are made available.

I still want to see them bring him back. Let him get right this off season and get our medical team working on him.

Re: Miami Heat Regular Season/Speculation Thread 2021 Part 3
The trade was nothing but a win win for us even with oladipo playing 4 games, you don't trade Olynyk for Oladipo and that most likely means that we don't add Mr. Dedmon.
There's no way you keep Olynyk, add Ariza and Dedmon and you play all 3 of them in the rotation.
(Don't even bother me with Avery Bradley)
So therefore, by trading for Victor, in the end we became a better team even though he barely played.
You have his bird right and in the off-season, you weight your options and go from there.

1. Even with Dipo getting surgery - it was still a good trade to make. We lost nothing of value for a gamble worth making, even if it didn't work out.
2. Going forward - It's not that I'm in love with keeping Dipo - but honestly there aren't a lot of other great options out there. Even as injury prone as he is - he might still be a worthy keeper if the numbers are low enough.
We just have to maximize our $$$ this offseason and add as much talent as possible, be it with Dipo or without. It all depends on the other attainable free agents, and what contracts guys are going to accept.

It looks like nothing currently, but when that 2022 draft happens and Houston swaps their Brooklyn pick with Miami's there's going to be a lot of upset people, especially if Oladipo isn't on the roster(medical or he signed elsewhere).

I think people need to understand that retaining Oladipo is probably the best move because if Miami doesn't, to make enough cap space that matters for a FA means losing too many key players by declining team options and releasing cap holds, had Bam waited to sign his max contract this summer there would have been more options this summer. If Kawhi is willing to opt out of LA and sign in Miami, yeah you do whatever you have to, to make that happen.
Also, just because Oladipo is retained on a somewhat sizable contract with health stipulations in it(so Miami can get out of it if they need to), Miami CAN still do a sign and trade for Lowry based around Dragic, a young player and maybe a draft asset. I think Dragic was overpaid to be a trade asset.
Miami could go into the playoffs next year with Lowry, Oladipo, Robinson, Butler(PF), Bam with Herro, Ariza, Dedmon, KZ or Precious, Strus, Vincent, Haslem and some development players. A highly switchable defense with only a couple of non above average defenders, solid 3pt shooting and solid playmaking.

I don't think it has anything to do with being upset with Dipo. The one year prove it offer would be the result of being unable to agree on the terms of a longer term deal. Based on what Dipo is reported to have turned down in the past ( $45 mil / 2 year extension), there's no reason to believe that he's going to agree to a multi-year deal at anything we should consider a reasonable number. If we come anywhere near close to what he's already rejected, we're dopes.

That's not a serious contender. You have to assume that Dragic (35) and Ariza (36) will decline. Players don't last forever. We need to quit dicking around as if we had more time. Our best player is going to be 32 next year.

If we passed on trading for Lowry this season just to make the same deal next season when he's a year older, I'm going to be annoyed.

It's not the same trade, they wanted Herro who is the guy considered to have the highest upside of the young guys, Miami was offering lesser packages.

Two things with Oladipo turning down a Houston extension.
1. Signing that extension would mean he'd had been under contract for 2 more years and with Houston rebuilding probably means he would have been moved to the team that offered the most for him vs him getting to pick his situation in free agency.
2. He's possibly in a different situation depending on how big of a procedure he's going through. He thought he was in the rehab part of his last injury which he's now had a setback, it's possibly a very different situation for him, he may have lost a lot of leverage.
People really need to go look at the Miami 2021 summer situation, that whole plan with Giannis was keeping Butler and Bam, hopefully a few of the low costing players/cap holds and letting the rest walk to create cap space is still the same situation if Miami wants to add a significant contract in free agency. Letting Oladipo walk doesn't magically create cap room, other player's cap holds have to be released and team options have to be declined and those players could end up walking also and with that it's quite possibly leave Miami with a lesser roster that they're locked into for a while.
Once again, if Kawhi is willing to sign in Miami as a free agent of course, let go everyone you have to, to to create the cap space, worry about replacing them after you acquire a top tier player.

Oladipo can only be a reason to stay if it's too cheap. Otherwise, other free agents like Fournier, Hardaway, Powell would be a better choice.

He’ll be cheaper than all of them.

Priority number 1, sign Lowry, Nunn and Robinson. Dedmon, Dragic, Ariza and Iggy can resign for the little that is left over if they want to return.

Ethan is saying he was told Dipo will not be ready for a big Chuck of next season,in which I agree. Meaning even if Dipo returns next season it will be a rehab season.

Dips situation seemed shady, I dont want that kind of attitude rubbing off on the young guys. He didnt even use team doctors, just did his own thing. shoulda had surgery with Houston and left us out of it.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

Did he need surgery while he was with Houston?
