He isn’t even in a slump. He just had a bad game. He played fine against the Clippers. It happens

Last 5-7 games his finishing around the rim has cratered. Hasn’t been making good choices when attacking. Those are usually the signs to me when he’s in a slump. But his 3 ball has been holding him up as of late before last night.

Knox still in the bust lead, with Frank in 2nd place, and Obi in 3rd.

RJ is more of a bust pretender.

If Dolan reads this forum he will be convinced that RJ should be included in a trade for Lillard.

Come on people. This is his second year in the league. He is doing just fine. Mistakes will happen. It was Thibs’ fault bringing him back last night after his disappearance earlier. Should have closed out with Frank

Barret has a hard time scoring over shot blockers. You can almost guarantee he will have a bad game going against the Myles Turners of the league. That is something he needs to work on and improve in the off season.

Morant had covid, which he said hit him really hard.

1. covid isn't the reason why ja has a broken jump shot
2. this isn't the mavs forum.

Is he an MVP by year 2? No, well then obviously he's a bust.

People need to be a little forgiving on RJ. First, realize the improvement he made over last year (when bust was a possiblity vs. his draft position). Now he has a 3-ball. He usually gets what we all predicted in that pre-season poll, around 16 pts, 6 reb, 4 assist/game and his defense is better. Figure he's maybe twice as good as he was last year? If he can do that again next year, we'll all be happy and deep in the playoffs.

Either he spent the off season working on the wrong stuff or his shot is as good as it's going to get. Neither is good. If he doesn't the time working on other stuff, who is giving him advice? Without a jump shot he'll stay in the nba for a long time. He is great in the open court and can get draw fouls and get to the line. If he wants his career to take another step he has to learn to shoot. That miracle won't happen this season.. maybe he'll work on it next offseaon? I'm not hopeful.

If we can get get next year :

20 ppg
6 rpg
4.5 apg
1.5 turnover per game

48% FG
40% 3
80% FT

I will be one happy camper. I think these can be reasonable numbers for him. An offseason to work on his mid range pullup and an increase at finishing at the rim will get him an extra 4 points right off the bat

the only critique for rj is that while his 3pt shooting percentage improved, his 2p% regressed.

he was hitting his 2's at a 48% clip at one point and ended the season with .45%, and it does feel like he just throws it up at the rim instead of taking it strong, but it's a learning process.

rj barrett the final product will be a triple threat scorer. 3pt shooting, finishing, and free throws ... he can easily be a 24 ppg scorer.

So it’s official that RJ had a successful sophomore season. Next step is to put on a show in the postseason.
