7 vs 8- Winner is 7. Loser moves on.

9 vs. 10- Winner advances and loser eliminated.

Loser of 7 vs. 8 and Winner of 9 vs 10 face for 8. Loser eliminated.

So 7/8 (Boston and Washington) would need to lose twice not to get in.

in at 7th. Loser plays winner of 9 and 10 game for 8th. Whoever wins that game is the 8th and final seed.

Winner of the 7th and 8th seed game gets the official 7th seed spot in the playoffs. Loser of that game plays the winner of the 9th and 10th seed game. The winner of that game gets the official 8th seed spot in the playoffs.
