Should Gorgui be a high priority for Rosas

Post#1 » by winforlose » Mon May 17, 2021 1:52 am

This allows you to start either G or Naz with Towns and have 3 deep at C. You could also pair G and Naz with the second unit and improve your defense. I think regardless of whatever PF moves we make, getting G back on a good contract is a must for the Wolves. Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Could take Ed's role for sure. For the vet PF, I would want us to get James Johnson back

I doubt Gorgui would want to come back after barely playing here and being salary dumped.

Not sure if he is close to KAT and JO. He might also like the community and the city. Lastly new ownership coming in might also help change his view of us. I think the issue is more about how much than coming back here.

High priority seems like strong wording for a player of Gorgui’s caliber.

Can we agree that our biggest needs are at the 4 and 5?

I mean as a third center big on a minimum deal, sure.

I was thinking as either your second center or starting PF. See my above post. The idea is twin towers plus MCD in your starting lineup. Then on your second rotation bring in yet another big and either play them with G or play them with Naz and have G start. Worst case you play G with Naz and have the other new big play with KAT. Move Vando to the 3 and now you have a ton of size to help with rebounding and are much more solid on interior defense.

Doesn’t seem like the offensive fit. They targeted Christian Wood and DJJ in FA last offseason. At the deadline they were rumored to be after Gordon, Collins, Nance Jr. they pretty clearly want a rolling/lob threat at least on offense next to KAT. Gorgui is not that player.

Before Thib's brought Taj in Gorgui was super effective in our lineups. I used him in fantasy basketball and he was a top 50 player based on all around game.

This, Plus when he got extended run he always performed better than expected.

No.

He’s a poor PnR defender.

Nothing against Dieng, but I’d panic if he was a priority. Cheap reserve (8-12 guy) is his role

High priority, no. I'd welcome him back at the right price. Our higher priority as far as bigs goes is a defensive enforcer at PF.

Should be close to a top priority for a minimum salary. Otherwise no, there is going to be a lot of cheap C's available and Naz should get most of the time anyway.

Our biggest need is a very strong rebounding, rim protecting PF. Gorgui isn't that guy. Gorgui does some good things but he doesn't block out. He gets the easy rebounds but.....I like him but we need to do better.

I'm salivating over Mobley but the odds are against it. If we get him I'll be almost as happy as when we got Ant.

I’ve always like Gorgui, and I am not sure that any big man has played better with KAT. He’s always had an excellent midrange jumper, and his growth to making corner three’s is a big plus, and he is a very good defender. I think he could also play next to Naz or Vanderbilt for a different look.

However, there are flaws to Gorgui’s game here that make him a more difficult fit. In addition to the flaws listed previously, Rojas envisions the Wolves always running, and Dieng is certainly more of a half court player.

Would I like him back? Sure, if it was cheap, and I think he could play in the rotation, particularly against larger front courts. Would he be a priority? No, I don’t think so.
