Re: Knicks point gurad options in offseason
Gimme Lonzo, if we can sign him to a contract around what we gave Julius to leave NOLA & don't commit any other future money this summer, we'll have plenty of wiggle room to open a max slot next offseason if Lavine makes it to FA. If he doesn't, then we've still got all of our futures & a max cap slot with which to trade for that third star to help Julius & RJ start really making some noise.
I get that Lonzo isn't the dynamic scorer some folks want, but he fits this team really well and could both bolster us for next season by actually giving us what folks wish Frank did, while also being a great fit next to a big 3 if we do get lucky next summer. Big, smart, a legit 3baller, he's a good defender with the size & versatility Thibs seems to want from his starter...and with Julius, RJ & hopefully a third creator in the lineup moving forward, we wouldn't need him to provide penetration. Plus he's in the core's age range & still has room to grow with them.
It's not the sexy move, but I think he's the best fit & signing him sets us up for that sexy move.

Call me an optimistic typical Knicks fan but I have a feeling Luca is gonna be good for us and may be able to come in and secure that PG spot right away. We should try to concentrate all our efforts on finding a legit 2 instead.

Yea I feel they signed Luca for a reason rather than give big money to Lonzo or anyone for that matter.
Keep the team in tact sans Elfrid
Maybe they are looking at the season after next for PG options if he doesn't pan out
He's a pro and expecting him to come in and drop around 13 pts and 7 assists a game is not unreasonable

Schroder is gonna want more than 3/45
I like Lonzo the best out of these options. Great defender, more of a 3-D guy, but when you look at the rest of the team, we don't really need more than that. Hell, we got by fine this year with a PG who can't shoot spotting up for RJ and Randle, so one who can shoot wpuld be a significant upgrade
Then he has positional flexibility so you can play him next to Rose or Quick, and in the event Luca is as good as some people think (I'm not expecting much, honestly), you could start him and Lonzo together in the backcourt
He's expensive, but he'd give us options.

Luca seems more like cover for Burks in case he leaves for a multi-year deal. I know he has some nice passes on his highlights but it's his shooting...in particular off the bounce...that is the thing that's going to get him to stick in the NBA, if he does.
So I don't think we can bank on Vildoza unless you're ok with risking another season of Elf starting.

Schroder is getting 4 years $80-90 million.
If he was available at $15 million yearly it is an easy choice. He is not

Re: Knicks point guard options in offseason
No clue what Luca brings. Could be Vildozer....could be Dildozer. Rose will
most likely get a new deal but...not sure what kind of money. Thibs loves him some Rose but...we need another PG.
Luca and IQ are the only guards we have on the books next year. The roster is pretty bare all around.
IQ/Luca
RJ
Knox
Randle/Toppin
Mitch/Pelle
That's all we have signed for next year. Trashbag/Frank(QO)/Rose/Burks/Bullock/Noel/Taj all FA in a weak FA year. Plenty of money to spend...nothing to spend it on.

We already have a solid PG, just bring back Payton on a 4 year deal hope he gives us a discount
J/k we should sign Lonzo. Send Mitch there in a sign and trade to sweeten the pot

If we can get McConnell as a replacement for Payton, it would be a huge coup. Derrick Rose could continue to come off the bench and keep his minutes in check. I think I like that option a lot.

Elfrid ‘The Goat’ Payton
Mike Conley has been my pick for a while now. Give him a year or two.

Re: Knicks point guard options in offseason
Through the draft IMO w/ Luca and Rose - I personally think we can get Davion Mitchell with 1 of our first round picks - Would be a good fit (Elite defender) on the older side and his 3p% increased every year.
