we would need to use all or part of the MLE, which would hard cap us, which probably isnt worth it.

I would be shocked if Marks didn't work this all out ahead of time. From the way James has been inserted into the line up instantly, I doubt he came over here just to be let go before the playoffs

Being hard capped is a big deal. especially for a win now team. it basically renders us unable to make trades or sign anyone beyond the minimum.

If we had used the MLE last offseason, we would not have been able to trade for harden... thats one example of how being hard capped can hurt you. another would be that boston couldnt trade for anothony davis because they were hard capped. if they could have dealt for him, maybe Kyrie/Horford/Heyward all stay. instead, they needed to wait until AD was a free agent to try and sign him, but AD was traded to LA before that happened

I love mike james. i dont think id hardcap us for mike james. hopefully we dont need the MLE to keep him here

Pretty sure the tax payer MLE doesn't hard cap you. The hard cap stuff isn't relevant to us. Mike James isn't getting more than 5 mil a year anyway. The big 3 + Joe puts us at the luxury line. Virtually impossible for us to get under that number and end up hardcapped.

Don't think MJ is a priority anyway. We signed him after injuries to Harden, Dinwiddie, Chiozza, Tyler Johnson. Team was desperate for any PG. It's not really a need for us.

I'm glad we signed Mike James for the rest of the season.

That dude is not only an NBA player, but a rotational player on most teams too.

IOW's not only does he belong in the NBA, he doesn't belong on the end of anyones bench either.

TLC is a guy for the end of the bench, if not Europe, but Mike James can bring it.

MIke James deserves to stay for the rest of the season. I'm not sure about next season though, we might try to get a young guard in the draft or a cheap one in FA. There is also Chiozza.

Can we buyout Mike James contract from Europe and keep him beyond this year?

I HOPE, cause that dude is the ideal backup PG and Harden isn't getting any younger.

This cat can take enough QUALITY MINUTES to help extend James Harden's career/greatness.

CSKA has just renewed the coach with whom Mike James has a bad relationship. Chema de Lucas says that "Mike James will try to stay in NBA", so now the problem is to guess how much the buyout will be, as Nets can only pay 700k aprox I think. Maybe he just wants to win a "bigger" contract elsewhere that allows him to pay the buyout himself. We'll see.

Harden
Durant
Irving
Harris
Brown (re-signed, hopefully less than $12mil/yr)
Jordan
Shamet
Claxton
Johnson

That's 9 roster spots filled, even before you get to Dinwiddie, Griffin, Green, Tyler or our 2-way guys, who we may retain with standard NBA contracts. That's also not including Cordinier (another PG) who is rumored to have already agreed to be part of the team next season, nor the 4 picks we have in the draft. Some of those guys will be Eurostashes, others may become new 2-way guys. We may even consolidate picks to move up, but it is at least a consideration as far as roster allocation. Finally, IF we end this season on top, we could attract an even higher caliber of ring chasing free agent. I know that Mike came through for us in a pinch, but we would be silly to favor him over McConnell, Neto or Mills, who are fellow free agents and possibilities for us to sign for the minimum.

We can't keep everybody. I have nothing against James, I just don't see the musical chairs game favoring him in 21-22 with us. Deep stats even likes Chiozza better, though I admit James passes my eye test versus Chris. Cold water on the thread, I felt it was time for a moderate opposing view.

It seems CSKA would agree to let Mike James go for free if he resigns from his remaining contract (2 years).

I’m not too attached to anyone outside the the top 4. I feel everyone else is replaceable. I don’t think they will be getting above vet minimum elsewhere.
I believe in Marks. I hope he realize this teams deficiencies(isolation defense and REBOUNDING) and will move on them. Either in a way that fits the scheme or just overall need(bench full of 3&D forwards or a dunk and defend big).

Most impressive about this team is with DJ out the rotation and Spencer injured that’s 21 million inactive. Replace them with some worth 21 million and vet minimums we are more than fine.
