Re: Premier League 2020/2021
Watching Werners interview after the game he did not seem to care about the lost FA Cup final at all.
Not a surprise that he aint scoring a lot of goals with that mindset although he played fairly well today.
Tuchel has Chelsea playing well but I feel like the CL trophy is Cities to lose. They just have more quality.

Re: Premier League 2020/2021
I don't think Tuchel cared about the FA cup at all tbh. Or, didn't prioritize it. Starting Kepa and Alonso said as much.
I think it'll take a miracle to win this CL final with how poor we've been at converting through open play. But then again we do play much more liquid ball when we face teams that don't just sit back and park the bus.
Hopefully Kante's achilles is good for the final. Havertz is banged up too and he might be our most clinical finisher.

I guess that sums up modern football. Top 4 is simply about money and greed, getting into the CL (not about wining it) which in turn perpetuates the big clubs staying at the top because the others have to sell players to them. Football should be about winning competitions not about generating money for greedy owners.
We have won a trophy this year, the second biggest after the prem league. Of course the CL trophy would be bigger but that is not available to everyone, it's just a trophy for a rich group of teams. I am more than happy with that, it's a dream come true.
Chelsea have won lots of trophies so I guess that the FA Cup and the League Cup really do mean little to them, which is the reason the Superleague was dreamt up by these greedy teams. It was evident in the two games that Leicester had the hunger to win the FA Cup and did so whilst Chelsea played with incredible passion and hunger last night to make the top 4.
When finishing 4th in a league is more important than winning the oldest cup competition in the world then money has affected the game too much.
I wonder what "big 6" fans of Spurs think this week. If they'd have won an FA Cup and not qualified for CL one year then Kane would probably be staying.
Of course Football still has a funny way of having a final word. If Chelsea lose to Villa and Leicester beat Spurs (and Liverpool win out) Chelsea will not be assured of CL football. Don't count your chickens super 6, football is a funny old game.

He really does seem pretty **** - when compared to the elite players. Better than Ayoze Perez for sure but really not an elite striker. Chelsea should offer him and Havertz in a swap for Harry Kane. Spurs would still turn it down.

It's easy to say that when you lost. Tuchel cared as shown by his tantrum after the match. Kepa was the goalkeeper for the Cups and let's face it at the money he cost he needs to be. He played no worse than Mendy did yesterday. No-one was stopping the Tielemans Rocket.
If Kanté is out then Manchester are the favourites. Chelsea play some great one touch football and have a solid defence but chances are KDB will be another Belgian midfielder to score and Mahrez will probably convert 1 of his 20 chances. What amazes me is that these two teams are contesting the supposedly biggest club match in the world and neither of them have a decent striker. Think how good they could be with a Kane or a Vardy.

I don't know why yet but I kind of feel that if anyone buys Kane for significant money that will be another Eden Hazard situation where he is hardly able to justify the money spent on him due to injury or whatever.
I can relate from myself. 27-28 is where you really start to notice all the wear and tear from football on your body.
It's not worth spending large amounts on 27-28 y/o's IMHO. As Chelsea, I'd not do that swap at all even if Kane is a superior player now.

I think if he goes abroad he'll be a flop. I also agree that the team who buys him is going to overpay but then again it'll be one of the teams that monopolise money in football so that doesn't matter. Manchester united, Chelsea and Arsenal have overpaid for some real dross over the last few years, they can afford to waste money on poor buys. I think if he stays in England he'll score goals for the team he goes to which considering the state of many of the attacks in England will probably mean trophy wins which'll make the purchase a good one.

And it should, my friend.
When your star player is wanting out it signifies the end of "elite" status. Your team is now in with the rest of us where we have to say goodbye to top players every season. picked off by the closed shop of the rich clubs.
Leicester have had players picked off every year
20/21 Chilwell
19/20 Maguire
18/19 Mahrez
17/18 Drinkwater
16/17 Kanté

Re: Premier League 2020/2021
Shouldn't Rudiger have been sent off or at least booked for this?
Ricardo and Amartey were the only two booked. Amartey did nothing, in fact Thiago went out after him. Big club bias I guess.

He shouldn't be compared to other elite players, because he isn't really in the same vein as them. Also his price tag was under 50M. His chance conversion has been suspect, but then you also have to think about how he gets so many chances in the first place. His movement his elite and his engine is tireless, and he never hangs his head. He also just dropped another quality performance against Leicester yesterday regardless of the fact that he didn't score or assist. He's also been quite unlucky with threading the needle between being staying onside and being a hair off, but that's something I think he'll get better with next season.
I still think we go for a striker in the summer like a Lukaku, but Timo should be here for a long time.

Amartey (who?) after dropping the most memorable moment of his career here after the FA cup
Was then on the field fighting with players off the bench. He should have been given a red and sent straight to the team bus.

You have to think about the context of our season. The FA cup was objectively the lesser cup that we're involved in. That was the biggest match of your season. If you could have asked Tuchel to rank his priorities between: Winning the FA cup, Winning the CL final and securing champions league football via top 4 next season; the FA cup would rank dead last.
First of all his contract extension is tied to securing CL football, so that shouldn't be a shocker. A domestic cup would have been a nice novelty- but he didn't start his strongest 11. He most likely wanted to see how the game would play out, and thought we could have had enough quality anyway in the team selected to win. He thought wrong (lets ignore the blatant handball).
It's a nice honor and I was disappointed we lost the game, but if the highlight of our season was winning the FA cup, but we failed to land champions league football for next season it would be a pink bow tied onto a disappointing ending.
I wouldn't have traded last years FA cup loss to Arsenal for our champions league spot either, look at the run we've gone and went on.

You can count the penalty as an assist. Werner was fouled ahead of the penalty. At least that's what they do in the Bundesliga.
