The same kind of chance I had with Morgan Fairchild.

From today's ticker: "Masai Ujiri addressed his contract situation when speaking with the media on Wednesday. Ujiri is without a contract as president of the Toronto Raptors for the 21-22 season.
"Weigh a few of the options and give this thing some deep thought now as I go through this process," said Ujiri.
Ujiri plans to sit down with ownership of the Raptors soon."

So we still have a chance, IF Ted and Tommy are serious...dunno about these rumors

This is really a shock -- a huge shock. I mean... it's shocking. I'm shocked.
How about you, Ted?
How about you, Ted?
Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

i can't really read too much into this
As a raptors fan, there's an article from Globeandmail, a writer still thinks if he wants a greater challenge, then it make sense for him to leave Raps.
If I were Ujiri, I would go to Wizards too
So cheer up Wizards, most rationale fans know this too.
That said, it all still depends if Ted is going to make the offer that is fair to Ujiri (2% plus 10-12M/yr)
Given Ted's financial troubles, that may not be a given.
So the ball is in Ted's court really.
Oh and it depends a lot on Wizards performance this year.
If they make the play-in, then there maybe less urgency to get Ujiri.
But if Ted's serious about a championship, then Ujiri makes a lot of sense.
He tends to maximize the abilities of everyone.

Laurene Powell Jobs is part owner of the team. Pretty sure she is not really hurting for money. If it raises the profile of the team and allows for a greater connection with the community and world at large, then adding a executive with a strong reputation may be seen as a significant and reasonable move. Especially for someone for whom $12m is a rounding error.

i dunno much about her, aside from the fact she's the widow of the great apple CEO
what's her inclination towards spending a lot for such an executive?

Top 5-10 richest women in the world, depending on the source. She has been a silent partner, but since she bought into the team we have added a new practice facility, new executive personnel, bought a G-League team etc. They clearly don't seem to see any issue in hiring additional personnel that don't count against the salary cap.

Re: The Masai Ujiri Watch Thread
Interesting, what title would ujiri be given?
It seems like they have a solid structure in place, they just need a true leader to take it over the top.
As much as raps have a great office structure, sometimes it feels like ujiri is the guy holding it together

I don't know about any specific title, but it looks like while there are "Vice President's" of every sort, the title "President" has been deliberately left open. So: "President of Basketball Operations"? "God Emperor of Basketball Dominion"?

What does that even mean?
Go to @18:00 minutes in the video I linked above & listen to how direct, real, & focused this guy is. What it's about....
Does he come here? How would I know? But, this is an executive of a very different order than we have here. He blows Tommy out of the water effortlessly, & the same for Ted.
In fact, in running the Wizards it's not Tommy he'd replace -- it's Ted.
