Re: 2021 Draft thread
Do we have a second round pick?
Russell, Rubio, 3rd string (set barring Rubio trade)
Edwards, Beasley, Nowell (set barring Beasley trade)
McDaniels, Juancho, Okoge, Culver, Layman (barring trades of anyone not named Jaden McDaniels)
Vanderbilt, Naz (upgrade at starter here? Vando actually looked good with Finch)
Towns, ????
Look, we need two big men.... between draft, trades, free agency...just add some beef upfront then just stay healthy

Re: 2021 Draft thread
In Dane's latest podcast, Finch and Rosas discuss the PF position. Both specifically spoke about defense and rebounding while not cannibalizing the offense -- team has options if the it's fortunate enough to keep the pick. Looking at the prospects, seems Mobley makes the most sense.

Put me on Team Mobley. I think he's perfect on this team.

I just want to keep the pick. Mobley/McDaniels duo at the forward positions would be soooo long. Would be an interesting experiment.

I'm almost all in on Mobley, but if we get #1 overall we have to consider Cunningham.

I’ve only watched Cunningham once, when he looked meh in the tournament. But I agree with you, based on what every analyst says, he has to go #1. I also think as a playmaker/shooter, who looks to pass first, he would be a great compliment to Ant. Essentially being Ant’s version of Pippen (not saying Ant/Cade are as good as MJ/Pippen).

I could live with Ant/Cunningham being a modern day Jordan/Pippen.

Re: 2021 Draft thread
Outside of Cunningham and Suggs, who have their own issues, everyone just looks so raw.
Mobley has potential to develop a shot, but the percentages look so so. He isn’t particularly impressive facing up and driving or exploding to the rim. So many times he ends up driving and settling for a post up. His post up game looks okay, but where does that fit next to our pieces. This is without mentioning how weak he is right now. If we draft Mobley he seems like a project for the next year at least. At least he shows some impact on defense and maybe just be a lob threat or hang out in the dunkers position on Ant drives.
Kuminga rebounds well, makes some nice passes, and cuts, but the only thing impressive about his shooting numbers are that he was going against G Leaguers. Bad FG%, bad FT%, bad 3FG%. Rebounding, passing, and cuts are some pretty good indicators or BBall IQ. It’s just stinks that him and Green played so few games, maybe he would have become more comfortable and adjusted to the comp kind of like Edwards did this year. His age is a bonus as well.

Re: 2021 Draft thread
We wouldn't really need Mobley to be a go-to scorer. The big thing is he so well rounded, improves the defense without sacrificing anything on offense and I think he can slide right into the PF position. I think he fits well with what we have, improving our biggest weaknesses.
That being said, I wouldn't be against picking someone else if we're convinced he's on a different level. We would just have to find other ways to fill the PF/interior defense issues.

Honestly, I can see us looking to unload someone for a late lottery/teens pick and someone like Kai Jones or Isiah Jackson.

The question is could/would a trade of Beasley be worth it to land a Kai Jones?
Beasley as a 6th man is maybe one of best in NBA. However, would he take that role and will he stay out of trouble.
Jones, on the other hand, steps in as day 1 starting PF, is a great match with Edwards and Mcdaniels (building for future around Any) or Towns and DLo (as a win now piece).
Russell, Rubio
Edwards, Nowell
McDaniels, Juancho
Jones, Vanderbilt
Towns, Reid
That is pretty nice....would still like a big 5 for depth and for physical games

Re: 2021 Draft thread
For me, the perfect fit in this team was Usman Garuba. Its a 4-5 that can defend al positions. A little Bam to compare with one player.

To answer your question, No.
And I don't think Jones starts day 1, not sure he ever starts, not that he couldn't, just that he isn't clearly going to be good, we don't know what he will be and if we have hopes a player around that range is going to be good, it will take time and we would give it to them, but jumping the gun a LOT if you are counting on him to start.
Beasley (+) will get you something with far fewer questions.

This is an interesting dude. I think will be the youngest guy in the draft. 6’8” or so. Long. Supposedly can guard 1-5. Possible all NBA defense type. Already playing starters minutes for one of the best teams in Europe.
I saw him one game. Problem is I don’t know what he does on offense. Took a couple 3s, but ugly mechanics. Finished around the rim off passes/rebounds.

That's fair, but tell me this...do you think any rookie steps in at the 4 or 5 (aside from Mobley) and starts? I say Jones does as his strengths line up with what Rosas and Finch want. He is a 4/5, long, blocks shots, good on boards, can switch on D, run the floor and finish, and can knock down 3's. I agree if Beasley (+) can get you a player that matches that, only proven, then go for it, but that isn't a Jerami Grant type though, it is a Bam Adebayo/Jonathin Isaac type...the goal would be to upgrade over Vanderbilt - who, interestingly enough, since Finch took over really flourished on the defensive and rebounding side of things. Vando is just a massive negative on offense.

Agreed. Jones averaged 8 and 5 as a sophomore. I don't know how you could pencil him in as a starter, let alone put him in the rotation on day one.

I don’t like any of the bigs in this draft much after Mobley and even him im not very high on. Wolves need to trade for help upfront.

Of course not. If a player is big he's just going to lose value anyway.

Re: 2021 Draft thread
Mobley seems like the most seamless fit for this roster. I don't think it's a coincidence that both Rosas and Finch talk about the league trending bigger again. If he's in range for us, I think he's a no-brainer.
