Typically when people plan to leave their job, they will check out mentally. The man gave a 40+ minute interview talking about things he wants to improve.

What is MLSE doing that is so unworkable thats had to change? What are they **** up now? I thought MU had that all fixed himself, but why are you not listening to your leader? And our media... nothing about this ever, crickets. So useless.

I don't know man. He had to make up for lost time I would say. He's been really quiet this year so not sure I'm putting stock into it.

I'm hopefully leaving my employer in 3 weeks but I'm probably going to work harder than I ever have. I would love to set the next guy/girl up to win and leave on an amazing note. But I hear you. It's easy to have one foot out during the process. Not sure Masai is that type of guy though.

Masai rarely gives interviews in general.

Pretty much every year we see a big interview on media day, at the deadline and end of the year. It's just that we have some events when we are at home like Africa night where we see him.

There was a sizeable contingent hoping for the playoffs all year. I don't think you saw the peak of it since you arrived April 10th.

Way to take context out of this whole thing:

1. beginning of the season leading to the all-star break, a sizeable portion said the team as currently constructed would not miss the playoffs - they were right until COVID hit - and they were not a fan of tearing the team down just to get to the lottery
2. after the COVID induced slide, the majority of that group wanted to maximize draft position without completely tearing down the team

This was the reality with context.

The team started 2-8 and at their peak were what, a game or two from being out of the play in game? Every team has dealt with Covid and injuries.

No one was advocating for a mid season tear down. It was Lowry, Norm and Boucher who were the prime trade candidates.

You can hide behind context, but the simple reality is that this team wasn't all that good and Masai himself said the goal is a championship, not a play in.

I'm sorry, did we just finish in no man's land now? Is this the tWo thread or are we going to derail yet another thread to talk about that same narratives a few people have spammed on various unrelated threads in the last week.

I hear you. Masai is passionate about most things so it's hard to see him coasting. The way I see it, he is planning to move forward with the team while leaving himself negotiating power. It's all going to come down to MLSE's level of commitment to growing the program.

I think his interest is legit, but that it'll come down to MLSE's response and investment.

Clearly, Masai has a list of things that he wants to see that'll push the organization to the next level, just like he did when they got the 905, OVO Center etc. I wouldn't be surprised if it included things like:

- a WNBA team
- More equitable broadcast priorities vs. Hockey/Baseball
- Investment in global branding, overseas operations (i.e. his desire to have the Raps be like a ManU)

I think Larry T can be convinced, but Cope is gone and Ed Rogers is a moron, so who knows.

Because, at that point the Lebron to Knicks rumors that have been floating around for the past 3-4 years become way more real. That or maybe if Pat Riley retires.

Lebron will retire a Laker. That was a family move and a post career move.

We need some Oddshark on this whole thing!!

It's nice to have a steady hand at the helm of the organization so I really hope he comes back.

If we are going to be a top tier organization in the following decades, cant help but feel his leadership is needed.

Masai is probably asking them at the end of the day, how do we get players like kawhi stay and Giannis want to come.

If I re-up for 3 years, 5 years, how do we get these players to come here, how do we get these players to want to come here ?

I guess I was focused on his use of past tense..."this WAS a dream come true"...and then "I can't wait to see what comes next"...sounds like he is looking at a new start somewhere else.

It will be difficult to watch him walk away and still believe ownership is committed to winning honestly.
