Even if we land a top guard like Green ... would we trade the Chicago pick + a future pick + a young player for Sexton and pay him big $$$?

Sexton is a very interesting case study.

The guy is legit three-level scorer who averaged 24 PPG on above average efficiency at 22 years old. He's a career .385 3PT shooter on 815 attempts. The shooting is real. That's valuable!

The problem is he's a 6'1" shooting guard. He can't defend 2's at all, but he has no tangible point guard skills. So you have to cross-match him with a bigger point guard who can defend wings to have any chance to have a moderately successful defense.

I would add to this nice set of stats, that Sexton will command a max contract. Is Orlando really ready to go all in on a player like Sexton, especially when Portland has essentially proved that a high volume, undersized SG cannot lead to playoff wins.

Portland is a case study of bad roster composition. 2 smaller guards as their best players commanding the majority of their cap

I would not want to be the team that pays Collin Sexton the max.

He can score at a high level with efficiency which is certainly valuable. But he's just a difficult guy to build a winning team around because he's can't defend and doesn't pass.

I feel like he'd be a good fit with someone like Ben Simmons or Luka Doncic. A big ball handler and primary shot creator who can capably defend 2s and 3s while Sexton cross matches onto the point guard.

If that’s the case, how do you feel about Sexton on this team if we get lucky and get Cade?

Cunningham and Sexton paired sounds eerily like Portland 2.0.

You’re talking about CADE Cunningham right? The 6”8 positionless player that can defend from 1-4? I really see almost 0 similarity between him and Lillard-McCollum.

You sure you’re not thinking about Suggs or Green?

You have your opinion and I have mine. Basically you are selling me on the concept that there is no scenario Orlando should consider Sexton.

Right on. Comparing Cunningham to the Portland guards is definitely an interesting take, but you’re right you have your opinion.

Still no IMO.

I really don't see Cunningham in that Doncic/Simmons caliber of primary facilitator at the next level.

Blame his teammates, blame the spacing of the college game, blame whatever you want to blame. The fact is Cade Cunningham averaged 3.5 APG and 4.0 TOPG in college. Nothing about the way he played in college screams NBA point guard. And that's ok because he's really good at other things!

Asking/expecting him to step in and be a point guard is just setting him up for failure.

Asking/expecting him to step in and be a two-way wing with *secondary* creation skills? I think that's his ultimate sweet spot.

Much more of a George/Butler/Hayward type, a big wing who can shoot, defend and pass than a Simmons/Doncic/Penny tall point guard type.

ugly and dumb.
Allen is fine player, very athletic.

But literally, you can sign player like him for vets minimum. Just give $5M for McGee and there you have it.

Isaac at 80M could reveal itself as a massive bargain.

All this talk really has me wanting to somehow see Colin Sexton end up in Philly with Simmons and Embiid.

You surely need to get Tobias Harris out of Philly.

But Sexton and Simmons are basically polar opposite players who are so uniquely talented and uniquely flawed in ways which might cancel each other out ... I really want to see it.

Embiid has to stay or it can’t work.

Definitely an insightful post.

Personally - I think college basketball is a pretty poor product and Cunningham played on a poor team with bad talent around him. I expect him to show more facilitating skills like he did in HS.

IMO put a guy like George or Butler on this team - nothing secondary about them IMO. We would ride those guys until the wheels fall off.

I would expect the same for Cade. Deferring to Fultz and Cole Anthony to be lead ball handlers.. yeah that would be disappointing.

Cade is definitely the lead ball handler on this team
IMO.

but you generally dont build around just 1 player, unless that player is a super star. It would be Sexton + ??????

Only if he actually played some games, same for Fultz.

Watching playoffs and how important stars are, just makes it that much more obvious how far away bottom of nba is from beint relevant.
Those Doncic, MIddelton, Butler, GIannis, Durant, Lillard, Harden perofrmance are best example why nba belongs to stars, and others just need to fill role

Yea for sure but Harden was more ''playoff Harden'' than regular season Harden

But no surprise when 3 teams (Lakers, Nets, Clippers) have 7 of the top 10-12 players in the leaque. Its a shame how uncompetitive players are over the last decade. :nonono:
