Nice to see the hopeless, hapless Wizard get a single shining moment in the light. Now it's on to Philly.

I'm trying to think of a player with a bigger gulf between how he impacts a team's ceiling and it's floor. He does relatively little for a bad team, but he does so so much for even a decent team. And yeah obviously he needs Curry like Barea needed Dirk.

Well I think there's a pattern here. We're talking about guys with team-based skills. The kind of skills you literally don't need at all when playing one-on-one.

Still theres no reason he shouldn’t have been great defensively last season though. I get it, all those finals, on a crap team and motivation down.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
Bad teams regularly need defense so why wouldn't Draymond help them? I think his impact would be fine on teams like Twolves, Cavs, Kings, etc. Now if you specifically created a team that was a bad fit for him (don't need his defense, but need scorers) then yes but that's the same of every player. I do think his passing numbers would be worse on other teams though. He didn't help 2020 Warriors much but that team was the jabroni squad and it's to to say he just didn't play good last season.

for anyone curious
warriors x2 with rockets in 2018 and 2019 (7 and 6 games losses)
Spurs 2008 (7 games loss) and 2015 (7 game win)
lakers 2011 (6 games loss)
edit: 2018 and 2019*, not 17
That Spurs Clippers series in 15 was one of the my favorite playoff series of recent memory - an instant classic

Ah well yeah, I think Green just mailed it in last season.

No doubt. I was just speaking to offense.
Offensively, Green tends to help good teams more than bad because of his skillset.
Defensively it would seem Green helps good teams more than bad because that's Draymond gonna Draymond.

Great game/heart from a young Memphis team. Lack of offense caught up with GS. Some strange defensive decisions down the stretch too imo (JTA vs Wiggins on Morant)
I bought a boat.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
I love Draymond but I worry that this game is a harbinger of things to come. When his engine isn't revving at insane levels and he isn't breaking up every play on defense, his offensive deficiencies can make him a liability. Defenses aren't even guarding him and he's unwilling to shoot so he's forcing passes that end in extremely costly live-ball turnovers.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
Draymond was a contender for POY in 2016 because of how legitimately good he was offensively in addition to being elite defensively. But his offense has just TANKED since then. Can't shoot, can't finish, and he's so TO prone.
It's a shame, because he really had a great bounce back year in terms of his defense.

He used to confidently take those 3s now he's afraid to. It has to be mental.

They desperately need a real high level offensive player. Just looks so hard for them at that end on most possessions. But man do I love how their guys compete and get after ya.

I couldn't watch the game, what are your thoughts on Green and Curry performance? Turnovers seems to be still a problem, though I suppose the rest of Warriors team didn't help.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
Curry was being doubled, sometimes tripled, almost constantly which accounted for a lot of his TOs but there were a lot of unforced TOs as well which to me implied fatigue.
Draymond was quite awful on offense. Grizzlies just didn’t guard him and played him for the pass like the Lakers did. So instead of taking an open jumper he kept trying to thread the needle on passes and was a turnover machine.

Dillon Brooks looks amazing defensively, however he takes 15.4 shots a game (more than Morant) in 29 minutes at .51 TS% leading to eye watering -3.9 BPM. His midrange shooting % is pretty reasonable at 41.5% from 10-16 and 44.8% from 16-23. His +/- on offense is surprisingly good (+6.8). How do you evaluate that?

I think the idea is that Ja Morant is supposed to develop into that. I think he can get there but his success is largely dependent on his jumpshot of course. His playmaking value and offensive reads will naturally become easier if he can get defenders to commit to him from a distance other than just floater/midrange. He has nice touch and is a solid free-throw shooter, so I can see him making the leap eventually.
