Re: 2021 Packers Off Season - Schedule Out 5/12
Absolutely a failure on Gute and Murphy's part to not understand the personality of the player you've been around for over a decade. Now Rodgers wasn't exactly honest that it's 'not about the draft pick' when it's very clearly about the draft pick and him feeling like they were putting in a replacement plan. Is that a little petty? Sure, but it's also a pretty predictable result knowing how Rodgers works. Like before you make the pick you should have thought out how you handle any reaction and this exact scenario should have been one of the possible results. And with that if Gute didn't feel comfortable trading rodgers if he asked out after the selection then he simply shouldn't have made the pick because if the plan was to just dig their heels in and have a public **** then that's a dumb plan.
I'm at the point where I honestly don't care who wins the power struggle and just hope this ends. But my actual prediction is everyone digs in and this drags way into camp with a possibility Rodgers shows up right before the season starts and this is a black cloud that hangs for the whole joyless season then Rodgers gets his wish and is dealt next spring.

Since Gutekunst and Ted before him were terrible people persons and that Rodgers is a baby something has to give. Gutekunst should put on his big boy pants and fly to Hawaii and sit down with Rodgers, knowing full well that Rodgers is a baby but it is his job to cater to him to a point.

Do we know gute is a terrible people person? I feel like he is a good communicator in pressers, never heard a bad word about him before this.
Fair to say he messed up the situation, but still think Murphy was the one that should have laid the groundwork with Rodgers especially if it is true Rodgers doesn't like Gute.

Report has come out that Gute's already flown out to the west coast to try and convince him to play.

It's entirely possible in this case that Gute is a decent people person, did everything he could, and Rodgers is still just flexing his power for more money or different location.

Am I the only one a little bit concerned by the new holistic cleanse Hollywood diet? I think Nagler mentioned Favre losing 15 lbs before 1999 and he started incredible and faded.
Rodgers was already a skinnier guy. Unless he turns the tide on this and puts some weight back on, he's not going to make it 17 games.

Probably trying to save his own job. I can't imagine Murphy is going to choose Gutekunst over Rodgers this time around, if that's what it'll boil down to. Murphy only has a few years left as President, and I'm sure he doesn't want to be remembered as the guy that had both Favre & Rodgers in his tenure and neither one of them finished their careers in GB.
My prediction that I'm sure will be completely wrong -- Packers call Rodgers bluff, Rodgers doesn't bluff, Murphy realizes #12 isn't screwing around and sends Gute packing.

Does anyone honestly give a **** that Favre didn't end his career in Green Bay? If anything it's a feather in Murphy's cap that he moved on when he did.

He was bad with the Jets and very good for one year with Minnesota. I'd probably argue we got out right on time.

Re: 2021 Packers Off Season - Schedule Out 5/12
I was obviously much more confident in Rodgers in 2008/2009 than I am in Love now. That's why I was in the, "lol, seeya, Brent" camp vs. "if they caved to Rodgers I wouldn't lose sleep over it."
But given a likely goal to get as much money as possible from Rodgers, I don't think we're going to win a Super Bowl with him since he doesn't care about saving $ for defense (and that's fine, that's his prerogative), so I guess I would also be fine with letting go early and working on the next era.
Bonus points for the fact that he might've sandbagged the previous year or two and brought back his A game to put the heat on + the fact that I don't think his body is going to make it through 2021 if he stays on this path.

Oh I know. He basically needs to be Matthew Mcconaughey in Tropic Thunder. Give Rodgers his Tivo.

The Jets season is hard to judge because he played through a severe arm injury.M-C-G wrote:ReasonablySober wrote:Flames24Rulz wrote:

I'd be much more on the just appease Rodgers and fire Gute train if I actually believed in the Packers chances this year. I had a bad feeling about this upcoming season before all this drama, the hangover of getting so close only to have their hearts ripped out plus the fact they've been realtivly healthy the past two years lead me to believe they were in store for a down year.
I also generally believe once a guy wants out you can rarely put the toothpaste back in the tube. You can bandaid the situation but once it's **** it usually stays ****. Most things end badly otherwise they wouldn't end.

Sure, I actually don't recall but seems reasonable. Point being he had one good year of football after he left, I'd say the team nailed the timing about as good as could be expected.

I am 100% convinced this would not have happened but for Woodley.
I would bet big money he is the type of guy who is subsumed by whoever he is dating.

Re: 2021 Packers Off Season - Schedule Out 5/12
Say Rodgers is traded in a week. There's a 50-75% chance that the Packers win less than 9 games on average over the next 3-4 years and the cornball fans are losing their minds (somewhat justified in this case). But in that case, we'll be starting the "build around defense/draft" era that might be somewhat successful OR we'll be starting the tank in 2021/2022. I'm not saying that's going to be the greatest thing ever, but it's something.
On the other hand, the other path likely involves extending Rodgers and guaranteeing money further out. There may be some parallels between the Saints of the past few seasons and what we see. I think Rodgers ages a bit better than Brees, but I think the rest of the roster is a bit inferior and Rodgers is also a bit more of a wild card. So as Rodgers' contract eats away more and more of the rest of the roster and he ages, it becomes more and more of, "OK, we're going to go 12-5 but to make it through the playoffs we'll have to do so with a lot of help." Granted, the Saints should've gone to the Super Bowl in 2018, but it would've been in spite of Brees at that point. I'm not sure we're going to have the roster makeup to pull that off if Rodgers falls off further in 2 years.

I'd only appease him to get him to publicly acknowledge that the water is under the bridge to slightly raise team morale and his worth on the trade market.
