But yeah, his form needs to be adjusted. What I will say, though, is that he is a player that seems to be shooting better when it's an in-game situation. I've seen him badly brick a lot of shots during shoot-arounds and was surprised he was confident and shooting better (incl. how the shots look) during the games. I normally would be more worried about his shot but the one thing that makes me somewhat confident in his ability to develop in this regard is his free-throw shooting. He's 87% (72/83) on FTs this season, which is impressive especially for his age. He clearly has a natural shooting touch (evidenced also by some on his floaters) that should allow him to improve gradually.

Its still early to tell, but Killian has performed in his rookie season just like expected, which is very poor and bust-like.

Kill has a very poor jump shot like Exum and when I watched him in France, there was nothing about his game that looked special and he just looked very average and boaring. Just like Exum who when I watched him in Australia looked very average and boaring.

I can see why some novice NBA fans might like Killian and Exum but i never understood overhype by other fans.

Basically everything in your post became irrelevant after you opened with those five words.

Killian was thrown in the deep end after basically no offseason/summer league and, as expected, being a 19 year old rookie in the best basketball league in the world made him look decidedly terrible for his first 7 games before getting injured.

But when he returned he did look much improved, at least from a playmaking perspective. His shooting and other facets of his game still have a long way to go but there's certainly promise and it would be foolish to write him off so early.

I thought it was down right awful this year. Even when he came back he looked more average that "Much improved". Isaiah Stewart looked like your best rookie this year hands down, and I was pretty meh on Stewart before the season.

Exactly, so why are people writing him off this early?

It's not that people are writing him off. But he was very mediocre especially considering he was considered the best pg in the draft. Yes ahead of LaMelo. Don't get me started on how I was hearing Harden comps.

Strengths

Has great size for the point guard position.
Fluid athlete with exceptional body control.
Creative passer with a high basketball IQ.
Scores on a variety of pull-ups and step-backs.
Size for his position and pretty good defensively is his biggest strength. His jumper or scoring IMO is not a strength.

Quotable

“Manu Ginobili, I like his playing style, his vision. And I like James Harden. I am trying to focus my game more like him – like a point guard who can score but also play for the team. That’s what I am looking for.”

-Hayes, on players he admires and patterns his game after

He's no Harden that much is for sure. I still think he can be good, but he needs way more work that advertised.

Yes, he was very mediocre in his rookie season.

But that was expected. Guy was 18/19. Only a very selected few are able to come in at the level of play and be above average, or even dominate, at this age. These players are all-timers.

I like Hayes, I believe he will turn out to be a good player. Much will depend on his improvement in the next 3/4 years.

I don't know yet if he will be an All-Star level player, I have to see more of him to project that.

I was really pulling for Detroit to draft Haliburton, he was my 4th-best ranked player when I did my big board. Detroit would be an amazing place for him.

He pretty much looks like a bust right now. People can argue about age, but it makes no sense because using his age is assuming that he'll improve with time. That's a poor assumption because not all guys improve once they get into the NBA.

But to be fair to him, it's only been about 10 games into his second season. However, if he wasn't drafted at #7, he probably wouldn't be in the NBA right now.

Or at least starting with full playing time. And also harder to send him down to G League.

I mean I'll never write people off this soon, but obviously he's not shown evidence to the contrary so far. It's probably also disheartening that it's not like he has had major flashes either. counting last year as well he has one game over 20 points (and none other over 15.) and this year's generally look worse than last year too. so it's not like say... Kevin Porter Jr or something where there are obviously big games you can hang your hat on in saying that's how it's suppose to work.

I never got the Okongwu hype but people loved him that year. I think many had him like 3 or 4 on their boards. Hampton if he could put it together I could see the allure at the time.

Post mortem… did he die? Kid’s only 20 years old. Still plenty of time for him to develop.

okongwu is going to be fine. hayes just sucks and always has. some of these guys pick up momentum for various reasons - usually dumb reasons (an expert decided they can play, a big game or tournament - small sample, etc) and the momentum carries them to draft heights they have no business being in.

Hayes is a scrub. He has no confidence in his game. He plays like a 3 string pg dribble the ball up and run the play, he can't create offense for himself or others and his 3pt shot is broken. He's decent on defense but not a stopper or anything.

He's young but the best case scenario is hoping he turns into a decent bench player.

Yeah, I was also completely wrong on Hayes. Thought his scoring game would translate a whole lot better but alas here we are. I find international prospects so much more difficult to evaluate (except for Luka, who was a whole different animal than anyone else before and since).

But I'm glad Haliburton has thus far lived up to the high expectations I had for him. One of my favorite prospects in recent years in terms of just loving his approach to the game (the only one who rivals him in this regard over the past five years was Mikal Bridges).
