Aaron Rodgers Thread - Reports to Camp
Let's take the Rodgers discussion here and keep the rest of the Packers talk to the other thread so it doesn't get buried.
Poll up top. With June 2 rapidly approaching, it seems like a good time to ask what will happen with Rodgers this year.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.
My prediction. Both sides dig in and Rodgers doesn't show for the start of camp and eventually shows up like a week before week 1. Pack/Rodgers have a meh season. Rodgers is traded next March for like 40% of what they would have gotten last draft day.

I think he gets a new contract by June 10-11 and is back with the Packers this year.

I think he's got enough of a conscious to return on his contract by training camp to not piss off players in their primes that are on the team looking for a super bowl appearance.

Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
If I were the Packers, I'd make one last attempt to smooth things over that didn't involve firing Gute and make sure the public knows about it. If Rodgers doesn't accept, I'd trade him asap. Unfortunately, I don't see Rodgers giving in. I think the odds are split that he retires or we trade him. Don't think any other outcome is likely.

If the report that they flew out to him to patch things up is true and he still pulled all this after the decision is made for me. See you later.

This is what I see being most likely.
Rodgers is unhappy, but plays some uninspired football and a Round 1 loss. Pack thinks they’re sticking it to him by holding strong, but in the end, they have just minimized his value for the inevitable trade next year.

If this is what happens I'll be loudly bashing the Packers organization. It's already terrible that he wasn't moved before the draft.

Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
I don't see any way Rodgers plays half assed. It's pretty damn hard to replicate last season and if he doesn't there will be rumblings that he's not going all out. He's too much of a competitor to do that. But sure a year from now he'd have less trade value simply because he's a year older, regardless of the season he has in 2021.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Whatever happens I hope we don’t let it linger. The longer this goes on the more effect on the season.
Sign him to an extension or trade him.
If we trade him bring back another QB. Jordan Love is nowhere near ready and Blake Bortles is a nice backup.
Didn’t Gute like Drew Lock a couple years back? I know his stats are bad with Denver but they were a pretty flawed team last year.

Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
I don't think Rodgers half asses it I just feel like we're in for a little down year due to 'heartbreak hangover', injury luck, and some natural regression with age. I had a bad feeling about this coming season long before the Rodgers drama. And as much as the players and coaches will deny it I do think that drama will have at least some impact on the team especially if it drags out long into camp.MickeyDavis wrote:I don't see any way Rodgers plays half assed. Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
We certainly had injury luck last season, everything fell our way. That's bound to change. Add to it a tough (on paper) schedule and all of the drama and it could certainly be a down year. I'm not expecting last years Rodgers regardless of his mental state.

I don’t think think he’ll be Gary Sheffield out there.
But say his system/team buy-in is more 2018/2019 than 2020, which seems more likely than not, to me. His value tanks, in addition to having the concerns about being a year older.
I think you either have to fully commit to him being here 3 more years at least (likely firing Gute in the process to placate his his ego) or you have to trade him 2 weeks before the draft last month. Rodgers has always played best when he feels he has something to prove. The organization firing a decent GM definitely puts that onus on him.

Yeah the real kick in the nuts is they had great injury luck EXCEPT for the damn freak Bak injury that really truly might have been the difference in the Bucs game. **** sucks.MickeyDavis wrote:We certainly had injury luck last season, everything fell our way. Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
I think bringing him back on his current contract is probably most likely to lead to problems - Rodgers will look like he caved and that toxicity will dominate his media appearances and headlines throughout the season. The only way they can resolve this is to either trade him or restructure his deal.

The whole thing is just baffling to me. I don't even understand what it's about. Gute? Seriously? Because he picked a QB without consulting you? Wasn't that like over a year ago? Or all a ploy to get more guaranteed money? Well say that. Don't talk all new agey BS that it's about "relationships". Unless this blows over I'm done with his diva act.

Bringing in a replacement is unsettling in any business. In the NFL as a QB you are either playing or not. Spending a first round pick on a player comes with expectations that guy will play.
I don’t understand how people can’t see this. Rodgers hopes to be Brady playing at 43. The Packers made a pick that put Rodgers timeline at about 38 or 39 to be out the door.
Rodgers decided that if the Packers want him out the door at 38, why not now.
I think most humans would want to act the same way. Few would be brave enough.

Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
BTW- how many people think GUTENKUNST looked at the chiefs trading up for Mahomes and thought, “that could be me!”
Then only a year later he looked at the Pats at 7-9 (worst record in 20 seasons) without Brady watching Brady win a Super Bowl with another team and thought to himself, “that.... could..... be.... me.....”

Re: Aaron Rodgers Thread - Poll Up Top
Rodgers isn't as old as some 37-38yr old qbs.
He sat for 3yrs so took a few less hits. He has been taking care of his body since the last 7-8 years and gets more into new age health, nutrition, wellness, as every year goes by.
I think he can play 3-5 years more, and he absolutely wants to do so.
I don't think he wants to crap his reputation half assing a season to get traded.
So either he comes to terms with the pack in August and does a restructure or he actually sits and green Bay listens to offers in Sept/oct because they are sick of it.
