lol... I thought you were talking about the Redick offer sheet that was signed by him and then matched buy ORL which was right after we signed Kyle Korver. We wound up with Ronnie Brewer, Korver and Booze that offseason.

Would it have been enough. Rose was dreadful in all the 4th quarters as soon as they switched Bron or Wade on him. Boozer wasn't a factor either. I think you look at the final scores and see the grind it out style and think it was a lot closer than it was. It really wasn't. We couldn't do anything down the stretch. They had all world defenders to throw at rose. I don't know that JJ could get us 3 more wins. Maybe 2 more. But those are all time greats in their primes. It's hard to beat. That's why they went to 4 straight finals.
Just FYI, it was one more max year - he could resign with the Hawks for 6 years, 5 if he changed teams. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap05.htm#Q47
You're right but I remember the amount being a lot more due to raises or cap %. It was the biggest deal at the time.
Yeah, back then if you resigned with your current team, you got 10.5% raises. And you're right that it was the biggest deal at the time, because Wade took less money and the other max free agents - Bron and Bosh and Amare and Boozer - all signed with new teams. Meaning Joe made more $$$ than all of them.

To JJ's defense, that was his last big deal. He never signed another big deal again. You can't blame him for taking the extra 40ish mill if I remember correct.

In the summer of 2010, he had just finished a 5-year max contract, so he could certainly afford to take less money to go to a contender.
But why would he leave ATL? They had finished the 2009-10 season with the 5th best record in the league, and he was playing with a 23-year-old Al Horford, Jamal Crawford (who averaged 18.0 pts/game off the bench), and a 24-year-old Josh Smith who had just posted 15.7 pts, 8.7 reb, 4.2 ast, 1.6 stl and 2.1 blk. You'd have to be insane to take less money to leave that situation.

Re: The Around The NBA Thread
If Joe Johnson joins the Bulls to team up with Rose AND maybe go to the finals AND maybe win a ring, his money would probably be even more with endorsements. He took the money that was for secure for the money that could be coming.
Joe Johnson would have been a big difference for that Rose team.

That’s why I said if Rip Hamilton is on the Bulls team a year earlier they are probably beating the Heat. With his experience and being a year younger that would have been enough to get the Bulls over the hump in my opinion. I actually think the Bulls get to the Finals at a minimum if Rose doesn’t get hurt the following year. Regarding JR Smith the Bulls actually had him on their roster but gave him away for nothing because Paxson thought he wasn’t a good citizen. Really could have been the missing piece for that Bulls team instead of relying on Bogans.
Doubtful. Rip had little left in the tank at that point in his career. Giving them an extra win is generous. Being the difference is not even close to reasonable.
Now had they actually signed JJ like they planned. It would have gone down to 7 and been a toss up.
People forget about that.. We actually tendered an offer sheet to JJ Redick and he signed it. It was for $20M, which at the time seemed like it was a done deal and nobody thought it would get matched... but it got matched by ORL and we wound up signing Ronnie Brewer. We had already acquired Korver and would have had a second sniper and somebody who could at least handle the ball a little. What those teams lacked more than anything was a relief valve for Derrick when he got swarmed and trapped. That team was devoid of a solid secondary ball handler that could be on the floor with Rose.
He has talking about Joe Johnson, not JJ Reddick.

JJ would have gotten the full max with the Bulls too. It just would have been 1 less year than what he got in Atlanta. I wonder if today he has regrets though. The Bulls would have offered a much better opportunity to win than the Hawks. Winning a championship is extremely important to most guys. I know you feel that with JJ the Bulls still aren’t beating the Heat. I just don’t think you can make definitive statement like that. Without JJ that Bulls team should have taken the Heat to 6 games. They blew a big 4th quarter lead in game 5. JJ makes the Bulls significantly better.
Yeah the extra money is great but these guys have enough money as it is to last several lifetimes.

No one knew how good the Bulls were going to be that next year. If JJ knew that I’m pretty sure he signs with the Bulls. If you remember the year before the Bulls were a .500 team.

Exactly. The Hawks won 12 more game than the Bulls in 2009-10, at that point it certainly looked like staying in ATL was the best path to competing for a championship.

There is also value in being one of the top paid guys in the league and your franchise star.

Re: The Around The NBA Thread
Iso Joe never prioritized winning over money in his prime, he left a 62 win Phoenix Suns team to go to a 13 win Atlanta team. They got to the WC Finals and lost to the Spurs in some unfortunate circumstances including Joe fracturing his skull. They could have been great next season with Johnson staying.
Phoenix offered to match Atlanta's salary, so he wouldn't have lost a dollar staying in Phoenix. Joe asked Phoenix to not match.

Cam Payne playing well for Phoenix. And that started last year in the bubble. Just further goes to show how awful we are at developing players.

A couple of years ago Lebron and the Lakers didn’t even make the playoffs. Then AD came to make them competitive and champions. Lebron can’t do anything without AD,. Their only chance at this point is if he comes back from injury for game 6.

If we go after him hard, I give up on this FO.
We should stay far away from him.

No don’t blame the bulls for not developing Payne. Did you not watch him play when he was a Bull ? He was terrible, one of the worst players I’ve seen on this team. He was so bad that no NBA team wanted him so he ended up in the G league and China.
After that I guess he got his sht together, Phoenix gave him a chance and he’s now playing well. Good for him for turning his career around but again don’t blame the bulls. Guy was not playing at an NBA level when he was here and was a huge mistake trading for him.

There's not gonna be many options if Lonzo Ball stays in New Orleans. Maybe Cameron Payne is the savior we need!

Super duper delicious. Groin injuries take a while to heal usually, depending on the severity of course. But Lakers are in big trouble.
