East 1st Round - Game #5: Bullets @ 76ers 7 PM (NBA TV/NBCSW/1500 AM)

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Tue Jun 1, 2021 3:24 pm

YOUR Washington Bullets played with pride and passion to keep their season alive.

The 76ers now lead this series up 3-1. Joel Embiid got hurt on a drive to the basket that got his shot blocked by Lopez but fell on his side. His availability for Game 5 is in doubt with knee soreness.

With that said, the 76ers do not need him to beat the Bullets.

Ben Simmons poor FT shooting is becoming a big topic of debate. If Brooks had hacked him in Game 1, this very well could be a 2-2 series.

Will the Bullets pull off a miracle on the road? Will Doc Rivers win a series in 5 games for the first time in years (see his previous 3-1 leads that have gone away). And will this be Brooks' final game leading your Bullets?!

As poorly as Bertans has played for most of this series, losing him is going to hurt and likely means Brooks is going to go small again.

Spacing wise it's probably a terrible idea, but if Embiid can't go for Phily, I wouldn't be mad if Brooks tries to at least matchup physically and would roll with Westbrook/Beal/Hutchinson/Hachimura/Gafford to start the game.

The Wizards threepoint shooting has not been there all series so it night not be a terrible idea to go that route to get more favorable defensive matchups.

It would keep giving Hachimura a chance to defend Simmons and would give us a more favorable matchup against Harrison.

I'm honestly really proud of this team. 99 percent of the time after the previous 2 blowouts, down 3-0, Beal smiling, our guys looking hopeless/helpless, guys usually start packing up for the Summer and quit. No Embiid but that's gutsy, especially with Philly making the big run late and having the momentum. That's with Russ shooting it with the door open. He's due, I still don't think that we've played our best, and I don't think that we will go out without a fight. I also think that they are due for a bit of of a clunker or cold stretch. Really interested to see this game. I don't mind Neto playing and possibly playing alot but still start big since we already won starting that way

Well at least we could have him back for the Finals.

I'd be happy if he plays in game 7 of the Finals.

HackaHoward or HackaBen? HackaThybulle? How many minutes will it take for Alex Len to foul out?

David seriously needs a personal trainer and to spend this off-season working on his conditioning. :-?

What has Hutchinson done to deserve a start (or even non garbage time minutes)?

Deserve has nothing to do with it.

It's about attempting to match the Sixers physicality to grind out a win in an elimination game now that we no longer have Bertans available.

We needed to add some g-league guys to the roster before the playoffs and just go full Hack-a-Ben for at least a couple of full quarters. Make Simmons shoot 20 free throws in the fourth quarter.

If Embiid plays, we're done. Without him, the sixers are just OK, not really appreciably better than the Wiz or bunch of other teams.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

In that case, give the start to Gafford or even Gil (or Mathews for that matter but he's not physical either), he's looked better than Hutchinson this year.

Wiz really need to use Mathews this game for significant minutes - if for nothing else than to provide a threat that spreads the defense. And play Gil some for defense, smarts, and an occasional open 3. I trust him over Hutchison. Hutchison and Len's value might be in their 6 fouls. Obvy, we need Beal and Russ to have good games - limiting unforced errors. Rui can't get in foul trouble, and it'd be great if he can have a repeat performance. Hopefully he's past the dear in the headlights look phase. He can and should out-play Harris.

Every game we win gives us a next game to watch. But, even with Embiid out, this one will be very tough. Still... if Rui plays the way he did the other night, we have a chance.

I did mention a starting lineup of Westbrool/Beal/Hutchinson/Hachimura/Gafford.
