Re: What's your perfect(realistic) offseason?
KP is a max player that doesn't fit and is at all time low in value, it will hamper all offseason moves, but options for replacing him:
Horford -- OKC may want to take a flyer on KP since they have time in their rebuild process, especially if they don't draft Mobely.
CJ McCollum -- if Porland fails another PO run (doesn't look like it, they manhandled the Nuggets in game 4), they will either look to rebuild or retool, KP + THJ S&T + DFS for CJ + Nurk + DJJ looks good to me.
The option I absolutely hate -- Kemba + 2 1st rounders, which the Mavs can use later in upgrades.
Cavs -- Kevin Love + Larry Nance, Cavs unload Love and get a plyer that fit their timeline.
If the Mavs go the "give KP a chance" route, then they need a PG and a big forward.

Defense wins draft lotteries!

The problem with all of these scenarios is that KP is a diva. You think he's going to go to Cleveland or OKC and give 100%? He'll cry and half ass it and try to get his ticket out of town. It's sad to say, but I was wondering if the trip to an LA strip club wasn't intentional on KP's part. I think it's reasonable to be skeptical of him at this point. Like I want to believe in the dude. I was happy as all get out when the Mavs pulled that move off, and KP had several big games for the Mavs late last season. Still, he's had several red flags this year.
A more realistic option is KP to Miami. That's a town where he might desire to go. KP is still a big name, and Miami might agree to make a move to bring KP to town, if they miss out on every other big name in FA (don't think they will). But, even in that case, I don't think KP & Butler would gel together, and Miami sees the same warts on KP that we do.
Maybe KP would go to Houston, maybe Atlanta? Less likely Chicago. I don't see him going to a small market team willingly though.
Does anybody know if KP has a no trade clause for certain teams in his contract?

I hope Kleber and DFS will not start next season...they aren't contender starter.

I wonder if Orlando would take KP for Jonathan Isaac. Both came from major injuries, but Isaac still plays defense. Doesnt have much on the offensive end though.

Kevon Looney is a good player to have at PF opposite KP. Can take elbows to the face getting rebounds. Excels in areas where KP doesn't. He doesn't have much offense apart from putbacks though. But that's where you ideally want KP to take more shot attempts.

Well that's something Rick Carlisle would love. Donnie needs to vacate the GM post and just be president of basketball ops or something.
That almost happened when Cuban was supposed to hire Daryl Morey
Ainge just holds on to his picks too much. Doesn't trade them. But at least he can draft.

idk if orlando is interested in this heck some mavs fans wont like the reality of not getting much for KP at this point.
KP and josh green for G Harris, J Isaac, C Okeke fits salary wise and makes sense for both parties involved.
isaac and okeke had acl injuries so orl cant go "but you cant demand much for KP your guy got acl injuries".

Already reading smart could be on the way out.
Mavs don't have much to trade but he is from TX.

What's your perfect(realistic) offseason?
Mike lorenzo wrote:I would make some changes, important ...
Trade 1
Brunson to Knicks
Robinson to Mavs
Losing Brunson sucks, but in 1 year you have to pay him, he will only be a backup for us ..
Robinson is a legitimate rim protector.
I think Jalen's ties to NY make this feasible.
Trade 2 ..
JRich + Burke to Heat
Dragic to Mavs
JRich goes where he has played best, trying to increase his value.
I guess Heat loves JRich, it was great there ..
Mavs gets Dragic expiring, as a substitute for Jalen, while Terry develops ..
a compliment to Luka ..
Dragic should be great, as a veteran leader.
FA..
Raising Powell's price and forcing Blazers to overpay ... then signing Tim, in the 14/16 range is a fair price ...
Use, the rest of the salary space for talent improvement ... teams that need savings ...
example Jazz if Conley gets paid, he needs savings .. Maxi for Bogdanovic ...?
Hawks if they pay Collins ..
Powell + Bey for Gallinari ??
If this is not possible, roll the dice in FA to O. Porter or Z.Collins ...
Under your scenarios wouldn’t KP be left as the only big on the roster?
Edit: disregard this comment. Mitchell Robinson… duh

I think JRich is absolutely opting in. I honestly don’t even see how that’s a question.

Jrich needs to opt in and be sent out for Marcus Smart.

Exactly why? I have seen this... and then I have seen an emphatic "no way." So why exactly would a player who has been demoted and whose minutes have dwindled think that remaining with this team will help his value for a year before his next big contract?
I'm not saying one way or the other, but I'd like to know why you would think this would be a good idea for him.

He had a bad year on absolute stats and efficiency. He might blame the team for it, but he had a similar bad year last year with Philly as well. Maybe he and other teams would blame it on the Mavs and Philly, but I think more likely they will see it as a JRich problem and not be willing to give him a big raise in free agency. I don't see any reason the Mavs wouldn't play him more if he played better next year. They still need a player exactly like we thought he could be.
His agent will check with other teams and figure out what his value would be before he decides what to do. So of course it isn't certain. But I bet he would prefer to bet on a better season next year with the Mavs instead of locking in a long term deal at his current low value with some other team.

That part I agree with - his agent will know. But I also think the Mavs know exactly who J. Rich is. All they have to do is to communicate that they will be looking to upgrade his position and it's unlikely he will see more playing time.
If he stays, he will likely get traded - possibly to a bottom feeder. So I don't think this is in any way certain that he stays.

J Rich opts in and it's 1 year $11 mil. He'll get at a multi-year contract for north of $40 million. Especially as shallow as this FA class.
This is so simple. Would you rather have $11 million or $40 million?
That's how this always goes. FAs 9 times out of 10 take the multi-year contract with more total money. All they see is $40 million is more than $11 million. Simple.

That would be a best case scenario. With Ainge out and Stevens in there’s a very good chance the Mavs could make that happen.

Because if he’s going to rebuild his stock what better team to do it on than the team with Luka Doncic. He’s going to get wide open shots. Opt in and get his $11.6M, go through camp and work on your shot. Where else is he going to go as a free agent that will have a better PG to get him the ball? It really makes zero sense that he would opt out.
