Danny Ainge Appreciation Thread
Wow...
Well Danny, he had a tough run recently. But thank you for everything!!
You brought us a championship in 08 and had an incredible rebuild. Until the Kyrie move and Hayward injury, we kept going up.
Thank you for everything Danny!

Danny....Thank you for Banner 17! Thank you for two awesome decades of Celtics basketball. Thank you for leaving us with Tatum. Thank you for recognizing that it was time to move on. Best wishes wherever you end up. You'll always be a great Celtic!

He's one of the best in the business. We'll learn to appreciate him more over time. Fans do not realize how difficult it is to build a contender, much less, to win a championship.

Thanks, Danny. Did the impossible once, almost managed it twice. 2nd best GM in Celtics history.

Yah, I'm pretty convinced this is a firing and not Ainge stepping down. Rich couldn't have been pleased with how the Nets are now superior after Danny blew 8 years worth of picks and got us to a play in game, while the Knicks and Hawks also passed us up.

Re: Danny Ainge Appreciation Thread
While his botton line has been questionable last few years, the guy defined almost two decades of Celtics basketball, created one of the best teams of 2000s, successfully transitioned from that to Tatum and Brown, and leaves the team in a pretty good state for his successor.
He's a true Celtics great, both as a player, and and as an executive.

I will miss his outlandish trades over the years. Was never afraid to swing for the fences which I liked and it worked out well a number of times. Unfortunately had some flaws and I think the last few years he really went downhill starting with the Kyrie trade.

This is probably unpopular here, but this is a disaster. The Celtics have had incredible success under Ainge. And since Brad Stevens came we’ve be great nearly every year. NBA teams do not have this level of success so easily. Winning is insanely hard. Most of them dwell in mediocrity for decades. The owners are taking a huge gamble here.

Re: Danny Ainge Appreciation Thread
people are mad that nets passed us? What was he supposed to do? He can't change boston the city to New York, LA, or Miami.
it is what it is. With what we can work with, Danny was a miracle worker. He leaves with 2 young superstars locked up long term with a team that hasn't missed the playoffs in nearly a decade and won't miss for another decade barring a season even worse than this one with injuries.
Stevens has to do what he couldn't do as a coach, have a minority head coach of the celtics. Probably helps that most of the most qualified candidates are.

He had a great career, ran into some **** luck. Wish him well with whatever is next. We needed a shake up, not sure GM Brad Stevens is it though...

Ainge will always be a Celtics. Did a great job on Banner 17. Left the Celtics in pretty good shape with Tatum and Brown. It was just time to go.
Ainge should have his number retired. 2 championships as a player and 1 as a GM.
Thank you!

I know a lots of you might not like Danny now, but overall I have a great deal of appreciation for him. Like his atittude, confidence and the way he carries himself. Wish him a good luck and even greater health!
I think he got fired, because of the fact that he didn't add an adequate bench the past 2-3 years while the team seemed in a fairly decent position to contend for at least a Finals' appearence. No idea if this had to do with the ownership or he was just hesitant. But he didn't do what he was supposed to.

Good assessment:

Ainge wasn’t perfect as a GM, but you can say the same thing as any other GM who’s worked as long as he did. He made more great moves than he did bad ones. And he brought us a title.
And for those who still think he sucked - you probably weren’t around for the Rick Pitino/Chris Wallace era.
Thanks Danny, and good luck at wherever you end up.

Thanks Danny. Really thought he’d get us to #18. Curious what he does now at age 62. Hopefully takes care of his health and enjoys time with family and his dog?

He had good run first 8-9 years. After that fumbled the bag.
