I hate that Nick Wright and all the Celtics detractors are gonna spend the next few weeks **** on Ainge and feeling vindicated, but a change was necessary. Appreciate everything he's done for the organization

Yep. He was also by all reports exceptionally honest and open with players (most important) and fans. Long a good interview, though of course it got frustrating this year to listen to him. I thought one side benefit of getting a new coach would be not having to listen to more Brad interviews. Oh, well.

That's a lot of disrespect for Jan Volk

Wow. Someone I had completely forgot about him. But fair remembrance.

I agree. I talk plenty of crap, but it's really bc hes been here so long, and I felt that between him and his son, too much monotony.
Nets trade was fantastic, same with IT addition, and even the IT/ Kyrie trade.

Purely bad luck, as soon as gordon's ankle snapped in half. this led to the kyrie crap, to the move for kemba, and here we rot.
Add that with the pure luck of the memphis pick losing it's value (might be an ainge fail for missing out on it's potential value vs realized value, but Ill give him partial credit for that)

Kyrie is a great player, just didnt work out, but screw him.

I was reading in twitter some things about Stevens and some people said Ainge is stepping down, I did think It was trolling and then I entered in the forum and boom. I still can't believe it.
Who are the candidates to be the new gm?

He's already officially in place: Brad.

He was a good GM. Not great enough to get or pull the trigger to get the big fish when he had the assets.

Thank you DA for pulling off the KG trade and giving us three great years of basketball championship contention with the 08-10 teams.

Hope you take it easy and your golf game improves!

Dude brought us a title and the Jays. Thank you Danny. Another GM would have royally botched the Tatum draft and our current and future team would be very depressing.

Absolutely. Danny was a great GM for a long time. Unfortunately he's had a lot of bad luck with personnel and injuries over the past few years and it feels like it was time for a change. Also for his health, happy to see him retire and spend more time with family.

It's sad to see Danny leave the organization completely. I didn't expect it. I thought he'd move into a President of Basketball Operations role, like a Pat Riley godfather type of guy.

The KG/Pierce/Ray/Rondo teams were a ton of fun and I miss those days. We should've gotten more than one ring out of that build. Just bad luck. And when the time came to move on, he did what was best for the Celtics and pulled off one of the more memorable heists in NBA trade history. Ironic that Brooklyn wiped the floor with us his year out the door.

Danny's had a long list of very successful moves and picks over the years that have been easy to overlook during these last few frustrating seasons. Wish him the best.

Ever since he shipped Antoine out of town, I knew we were in excellent hands. Leaves huge shoes to fill. I've no idea if Stevens is up to the task.

Thanks for everything, Danny. Enjoy retirement.

Thank you Danny.

I started off posting in this forum while making signatures making fun of him. I wanted him to do this and that and I just didn’t like him. I was very wrong. He turned out to be a heck of a GM.

I truly think his downfall was that Kyrie trade. Maybe it was an IT curse. Who knows. But that Kyrie trade spelled his ending here. I’m not even saying it was the bad move, it just turned out bad. I don’t think he’s leaving if we have a trio of SGA/Sexton with Brown and Tatum.

I hope for his health and his family that he goes off into the sunset and plays golf everyday. But I feel he will head to Utah in a year or two. Either way, good luck Danny! It’s been fun :)

BostonCouchGM will no longer have "Danny's hubris" to blame for everything Celtics related. Sad day for this forum!
