Obi is making the jump next season. The kid went from looking like the worst rookie in the league to someone you wanted on the court in playoff crunch time. He kept grinding and grinding and willed himself out of the sunken place. When it's all said and done, Barrett will be the 3rd best youngster on the team behind Quickley and Toppin

snadler wrote:You can argue Thibs was outcoached in this series, and I can't argue, BUT it's much easier to coach when you have the more talented team. The knicks got to 41 wins on heart, hustle, defense, cohesion, but not talent. In the playoffs it's always about talent..the only thing the playoffs made clear was how much more talent the knicks must bring in..with that said, the culture which had been stressed for so many years, has finally changed, the knicks are no longer the laughing stock. They have so much going for them right now, that it's hard for me to hear any knicks fan complaining. Besides establishing a culture change, but are armed and ready to bolster the talent this summer. Reaching the playoffs should no longer be the goal, but having a team able to win in the playoffs is the next step. Just that alone is incredible considering where the knicks have been for so long. It's a disappointing end to the season, but only a bright future ahead
Pretty much my outlook. As far as Thibs I agree, fact is I don't think any other coach takes this team to a 4 seed to begin with, or wins this series given our lack of talent. You could take a great chess master and put them in a game starting without a queen on the board and they might lose a lot of games to other players, the Hawks had a queen on the board with Trae Young and we had a bunch of pawns who fought valiantly throughout the season but couldn't get it done

It felt great hearing "defense" chants in MSG again.
FO decided not to tank when they hired Thibs.
I am not gonna fault him for trying to win.
We all know this team lacks talent.
It would be nice Cade/Suggs playing next to RJ, Obi & IQ but FO chose different path.
One definite positive from this series is finding out Randle is not a max player and not even close.
He doesn't have characteristics of a winning player.
He did his part to increase his value so FO better do their part to maximize his value.
This off season should be interesting.
I expect franchise changing transaction to be done whether good or bad.
Ehh but he's MIP, that's a winning characteristic right there. Terrible in this series but who's to say he wont pull off another MIP ...playoff version?
Randle is not too bad. He just needs to accept fact hes a 2nd/3rd option. Hoping to not max him and run the organization through him, would be a big mistake.

Lot more concerning questions about our future. Can we still trend upwards? Sure can. But there is a little more uncertainty about what we have then about 10 days or so.
The Hawks were better but the Knicks were badly exposed in this series. Randle was exposed. Not having a center who could score points exposed them. Not having a PG for the last say oh...30 years exposed them. Not enough talent at all on this roster. Only positive outcome from this disgraceful performance is that hopefully Leon and Wes don't think they are a piece away. They are indeed, VERY VERY far away from competing for a title.

Stop gap option and figure it out in 2022 is my guess.

Randle trying to handle the ball from the perimeter on every possession is never going to work in the playoffs. The guy doesn’t have the ball handling and or IQ to do it consistently against defenses that are keying on him. During the off season , the Knicks have to make it their priority to either trade and or sign a ball handler. As well as getting some more shooters.

Hawks were more talented, but the Knicks were too conciliatory last night. How'd we not commit any dirty fouls on Trae or Capela? You gotta protect MSG.... eff sportsmanship

thibs could have been better but the guys who were on the cover of slam magazine were awful. they're any good and it's a different series.
the thing you can most blame thibs for is overachieving during the regular season and making it seem like the team was better than it really was.

Word.
Thibs played IQ and Obi ALOT especially during key stretches during games.
The "Thibs doesn't play rookies" storyline has been buried.
I will disagree on Quickley. He should have gotten more minutes then he did. It hurt us because we could have used more offense and Rose wore down.
We still overachieved and credit to Thibs for that.

Yea, I can't blame Thibs for that. No adjustment could have made up for most of our main guys underperforming as they did.

Not really imo, regardless of how good Randle was this year, I don't think anyone thought he was a true #1 player on a playoff team, he should be a #3 on a great team, a #2 on a good team. RJ is 20 and got his first taste of the playoffs, he improved his game tremendously from his rookie season. We need more talent, nobody thought otherwise. The knicks have everything going for them to improve their talent level, starting with the most cap space, tons and tons of picks, and now a foundation and culture established

Agree but Thibs ain’t settling for this roster next year. He likes real shooters, post play big men, and scorers. We shall see idk. I doubt he has time to bring up RJ, kev, Obi, IQ and 2 picks. A trade is coming.
I want Rose back as a bench guard tho.

and even though he scored more, julius might have played his worst game last night. he tried to get over being shook by forcing things and it was nothing but bad shots and turnovers.

I saw a lot of standing around and watching the Hawks outwork us for loose balls and their offensive rebounds, even when we had more bodies around the play.
Legitimate question... did all the minutes catch up to them? Were they tired?
I made the same observations. They were fresh as daisies while we were like molasses. We were wiped out ... except for Obi and IQ.

if you don't have concerns about Randle going forward I don't know what to tell you. 1st option, 2nd option, 3rd option, I don't care. He was so bad in the 5 games its hard to even put it into words. If you feel comfortable committing long term to him after that post season bless your heart. I'm not saying don't pay the man...I'm just saying if you don't have some reservations after this series you aren't human. He was completely taken out of everything he wanted to do (fairly easily too). I don't know if pushing him down a peg on the totem pole completely alleviates all our issues.
