This is what I'm seeing.
Ayton actually using his strength in the court is paying HUGE dividends already.

Anyone got his stats on this for the series so far? I mean 12 is great, but 0 on the next game averages 6....how does he actually compare to Gobert on a larger-than-one sample size?
(@theIVpointplay, if you're lurking, post the stat lol)

Tied for 3rd averaging 6. Was 3rd during regular season averaging 5.6

Look over to the far right and he's #1 of those guys in contested shots per game. He was near the top in that category regular season as well.

Re: Deandre Ayton year 3, the next step
Honestly, if the guy had like two or three go-to moves to create his own offense, I think the guy would eliminate like 98% of the hater talk out there and would certainly shut me up for the most part. I know it's not ALL on him because of the schemes we use which doesn't feature him creating his own shot but in the same way a bit part of CP3's value is his ability to get those release value shots, if we can give Ayton the ball with 5s left on the clock and he can get a reliable shot off, that's already massive.
He's already far exceed my expectations on defense but it's only on the offensive end and I suppose that consistent focus/engagement that I want to see more of.

There's no question for him to meet #1 pick expectations he needs to develop more of an ability to make his own plays with the ball (e.g. embiid dribble moves) as for now he is limited to needing good guard play to have an impact on offence.
That said, his all around game is progressing so well and he has improved in his catching ability and silly sloppy play reduction that right now he is a very valuable player.
He also has shown some ball handling progress and its not like guys such as embiid had all those ball handling moves from day 1 either.
Its good to see

Give him the max, eff it.
Dude carried the Suns games 1-4, kept the series tied, and then let Booker carry us home. Without DA the Suns get swept. Big ups to the big fella

Thought he was exceptional all series. Even today, although a lesser extent, but the stat sheet won't show as much.

I'm hoping $28m per year, keep it flat as salary cap pressure builds.
But most guys who are in discussion for the max end up getting it just because of supply / demand.

Re: Deandre Ayton year 3, the next step
I think Ayton really landed in the perfect spot.
We already had our go to guy and he's just working thru Booker to stay efficient.
Keeping it simple is allowing him to be really great in his role and eventually hell work himself up to be able to carry our offense too.
What I want to see if he can keep his work rate up when playing with bigger role (like he did in Arizona and brought up questions about his work rate).

Why do people cry about offense with a big ? Dude can put up 20 ppg in certain games, and he can put up 8 ppg. Even on some of his 8 ppg he is a positive on the floor with defense, rebounding, picks, etc.
Ya'll are just as bad as lebron, and always crying

I would hope that he proved his value in the last series. Oh well, I guess once we watch him harass the league MVP into a brutal amount of games, people will stop the hate.

Oh because it would make us even better?
That's like, oh why do people cry about Booker's 3PT shooting?

Re: Deandre Ayton year 3, the next step
Yeah this guy is a beast. His defence is an anchor for us, and hes so important for our shooters because he rolls so hard to the rim.
Eating crow, but he looks like a completely different player. Getting 20/10's every night and mking it look easy against AD and Jokic.
