Sit him until you need him, then hope it's not too late. I remember Embiid having a monstrous game against Houston playing with a torn meniscus his rookie season. He'll be fine I imagine.

Brandon roy, Bynum playing injured in playoffs. Grand hill. Chris Webber. All of their injuries derailed their careers. I’m not sure I want to risk Embiid career having him play. Sucks. We are 1 seed. But Nets would be difficult to beat even with healthy Embiid. We do have a shot with healthy Embiid. Cause our home court advantage is real.

what a potentially franchise altering decision to play him or not. good luck y'all. i don't envy the position of the team's management.

You don't think the Bucks will make it past the Nets?

I think the bucks have a shot against the nets. Not favorable, but a prime Giannas is still a MVP tier player.

I think you wait until game 3, even if you lose game 1. If we are down 2-0 going to Atlanta I'd like our chances with a normal-ish Embiid. That gives him 9 days, assuming day off between games in Round 2 like always. An extra day if they luck out with two days in between at some juncture.

If we somehow win both games at home I'd try to finish them off without Embiid until game 6.

Fwiw, besides the first two years where he wasn’t playing, I can’t remember a time that he did an on court warmup like he did last night and didn’t play shortly thereafter.

I dont think that the number in days off makes a big difference.

The problem is hes hurt and needs surgery but if he gets it hes basically out of the Playoffs.

He can play thru this injury but he probably wont be 100%. And there is a significant risk that the tear gets more serious, so you want him playing the less games as possible.

Didn't Jo miss half his rookie year because he played with a meniscus tear?

huh? I think it was a lot worse and the medical staff actually wasn't being fully forthcoming about it. Again, there are varying degrees of tears. Can't treat them all the same. From what I understand the one he got surgery on, the doctors said, oh you need surgery, and the doctors let him play anyway.

I thought he originally tore his meniscus in the game right before the one on national TV against the Rockets. Doesn't matter now. We just need to enjoy him while we can.

He did. He also had a nasty dunk on Nene, chase down block on Harden and dropped 32 on the Rockets with that torn meniscus. We were still tanking though so shutting him down for the season was the obvious decision.

He should be done for the season. Hampered players that have real injuries that need time off aren’t even close to their best anyway.

We should learn from last time with Embiid, Durant same thing, Davis needed more time off etc etc.

For me just play Embiid max 65 games a year including playoffs if it has to be 40 games for the regular season so be it. He can’t play more then 30 games in row without an injury so time it for that.

He’s our championship cornerstone albeit durability wise not great, Bill Waltonish with availability. But the window open and closes with him always has been.

Utilize Embiid wisely there may only actually be one “clean” run at it if it is that way then got to think long-term.

This year is a write off for me. Our team isn’t ideal anyway so don’t risk it.

Put away the ego and pride away. Be logical about it. True championship windows don’t come around often. 3 seasons squandered now, 3 more to go and that’s it back to square one.

Don't risk it, we have a great player in Embiid, we need to make sure his career doesn't go down the drain, wait until next season to play him, Nets are winning the championship and nobody can avoid it.
But I guess this means I am an Embiid hater, well so be it then, much better than being an Embiid fanboy that in reality only cares about winning now and is not looking at the bigger picture.

Question, is, if it can't be repaired by surgery, then what is the point of resting it? You guys seem to be so scared by a meniscus injury. These are the most basic knee injuries, and it varies by degree. None of your are medical experts, so not sure why you both feel you're authorities on assuming that he is done for the season. If in the offseason all he'd have to do is rehab it, then there is not much risk in him playing. If he does tear it further, then all you have to do is a meniscus surgery, and it's pretty much the same. Now obviously if the remove the meniscus, or if they have to cut a big chunk off that is bad, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I can easily tell who in this thread has actually played basketball at an organized level and who hasn't.

We cannot lay Embiid off a whole series and think he will be at his old level from game 1.
Guy needs games to be in top shape.

It's a small meniscus tear. Come on, one of the most common injuries in sports.

And as a professional, you need to be able to play through injuries. If we shut him down with every broken toe nail, we'd just better quit professional sports

This! Let see how it is when he plays. He maybe be unhindered by it. They'll check up on it. If it swells we'll see, and maybe they have to shut him down. But to just blank statement say he's done, and not even give it a shot is lame. The dude worked too hard to let a minor knee injury derail his chance at a championship. Things could be very different next year.
