Fair Trade idea?
Trade Plumlee and future 2nd for Kemba and 2 x1st round picks, including this year's?
We would land the 16th pick and Boston gets the starting center that they so desperately need, the cap flexiblity to keep Fournier and get out of the luxury.

How does that really push us forward long term?
What impact does that have on 2022 free agency?
Do you expect Kemba to get us to the playoffs?

I don't know if you'll get 2 firsts, but definitely #16
I'll take it.
You are taking Kemba to get this year's #16. Getting Troy another pick is the goal. Bouknight, Springer, Franz range.
Kemba comes off the bench as 2nd pg like Derrick Rose did

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

I wouldn't want to have Walker's $73 million in salary over the next two seasons for the #16 pick. That trade would handcuff Weaver, keep us from adding a quality free agent for two more years. Blake Griffin 2.0.

So you're willing to swallow his remaining salary in order to get a mid first round pick?vic wrote:I don't know if you'll get 2 firsts, but definitely #16

Surely there's a much better option available

Yeah I think 2 firsts to take on Kemba is fair. He's set to make a ALOT of money and seems to be declining due to injuries and age. On the flip side, he is still talented and could turn things around for a possible trade next year. Its certainly risky and not sure I'd want the Pistons taking on that risk.

He's on one leg, I don't think people realize his medicals are fairly bad. There's a reason why even Charlotte of all teams were hesitant on maxing him

Re: Fair Trade idea?
With a top 3 pick as your superstar, #16, Beef stew, Jerami, Saddiq, Hami, Josh, Sekou, Frank as your role players and energy guys, and Killian/Kemba stirring the pot and feeding guys....
I don't think you even need another free agent.
To me it's a way to get another good pick and build a strong core. Troy's best strength is drafting talent. Any chance he gets to use that strength, let him do it!

If they give 2 firsts, that's even better

Re: Fair Trade idea?
With a deal like this you are looking at 3 things; Kemba's on the court value, his contract and the value of a mid 1st round pick. The problem for us is that his on court value is virtually irrelevant. And I'm sure as hell not paying $70 mil for #16, with our without a future 1st attached to it.
You'd be better off trying to find a 3rd team who will actually value Kemba as a player, but then you need to wonder why we're even in the deal at all, other than to leach value.
This should be a non-starter for us. Especially after we just worked really hard to get rid of exactly these types of contracts.

I'm of the school of thinking that Hayes is not ready, hes good but not ready. He needs a vet to help with the load. We had success with rose and load management, might be able to work with Kemba.
How does it hurt us? We sit out the 2022 free agency for two first round picks. Kemba money comes off the books when Grant does and the rest of Blake's money does which makes us real players that year. We could get grant real help and add more talent to our core.
I do not expect Kemba to get us to the playoffs by himself, he's good when healthy but he ant it. And honestly the opportunity cost is missing out on a 20 million max free agency this year.
I see this as low risk, high reward and the perfect setup to finish adding to our core, offset the Houston trade for us and clearing money for 2022.

Re: Fair Trade idea?
We sit out 1 free agency for 2 first round picks? Seems like a no brainer because we would have so much money coming off the next year to actually make a move for a star. By then we would have 5 good rookie deal players if Weaver hits on those picks ( given his track record, I think he can) loads of cap space and rights to being back grant and possibly Kemba if he's worth it (time would tell).440BB wrote:I wouldn't want to have Walker's $73 million in salary over the next two seasons for the #16 pick. Re: Fair Trade idea?
Th only reason I put two first rounders in was because we were also giving up Plumlee, whose value I think at the moment is a late first round pick. I think it works for both side with maybe Boston needing another 2nd round pick to make it happen.Moses ShamMoses wrote:Yeah I think 2 firsts to take on Kemba is fair. Re: Fair Trade idea?
Kemba is not the prize here, the two first round picks are. And the only reason they might think about this is because we would be solving another problem which is their big rotation. They got crushed in rebounding in the playoffs, Plumlee can provide that and has good passing to fit their system. I just don't know if they would give up a 2nd, no way they move him this year without giving up their 2021 pick.Cowology wrote:With a deal like this you are looking at 3 things; Kemba's on the court value, his contract and the value of a mid 1st round pick. Re: Fair Trade idea?
We just payed a ton of money to get rid of a guy on bum knees on the downside of his career, now you want to aquire another guy on the downside of his career breaking down, they would probably need to buy him out. Two middling 1st round picks isn't enough, plus I'm not sure what upside their is, it's not like Kemba could rehab his image across the league, he's been exposed when healthy as a terrible defender.

Re: Fair Trade idea?
This is not the treadmill I'm looking for.
There are other ways to acquire 2 additional first round picks.
I see this as a rush to return to the 8th seed! Even assuming we agreed to this deal prior to the Draft:
#2 (Mobley) - Stewart - Okafor
Grant - Sekou - Cook
Bey - JJ - #16 (Zhaire Williams)
Diallo - Frank - Sirv
Kemba - Hayes - Lee
TOR & CHA 2nds are 2 way guys, LAL 2nd is Euro stash.
IF that's a low seed we get waxed in the first round.
IF it's a non playoff team we get a late Lotto pick
Full of hope maybe but it's a short sighted move IMO

Re: Fair Trade idea?
Can we be honest and stop saying two 1st round picks and call them what they really are? This ain't the NFL so just throwing out the statement two 1sts means nothing in a vacuum. It's the 16th pick this year and probably the 20 something pick in two years.
How is that a prize? Majority of this board lost their s**t all season at the mere thought of getting the 6th pick and you're calling 16 and worse, for the low low price of $73 million, a prize?

The Pistons right now are in a position where no risk needs to be taken on, period. Hard pass.

Majority of the board lost their **** over a handful of 2nd rounders lol. It's easy to get excited about the unknown because anything can happen. That's how lotteries work. But just because you play, that doesn't make you a winner. Sometimes it's better to just invest wisely.

Re: Fair Trade idea?
There has to be a better way to pick up some additional firsts in the upcoming draft. Hell, Plumlee had a triple double, is a known passer, and if you throw in some shooting, I bet you could get a first from Boston, or someone else.
Absolutely no to taking on a monster contract for a first, unless its a lotto pick. Then we'll talk.

Replace Kemba with Tristan Thompson. Now it's at least worth considering. Thompson is expiring.
